Or discover the " Prestwich Mile"?

Spurs away January 2002, death in the family that week, drove to White Hart Lane to get my mind off things, saw Sam outside the ground at 1pm said there was to be a pitch inspection, called off at 2pm, all Bolton Fans already there

So do you think it was OK for England fans to do the Nazi salute that day? Not saying you do, but lots of my family died in WW2.

You don't seem a bad lad

Just asking, like?

A bit deep this, but I've never done anything I have regretted. I've done things I'm ashamed of, but its all part of a growing up process, hence why I don't really regret even the silly things. I think you have to do a few daft things to actually realise how daft they are, you understand? :pardon:

As it was, that day was nowt to do with the Nazi salutes, they've happened long before and long after.

That day was about a whole lot more, it was basically a few thousand English standing up in Dublin and telling them what we thought of their dirty murdering bastards.

Am I ashamed of it, not really. I am glad that things have moved on for the better though.

Seeing them on the pitch giving it the biggun whilst the Garda whacked fcuk out us, fcuk the queen, IRA songs etc, then watching them scatter like pigs as a few hundred English in the overspill terrace at the other end surged on was one of them things you just had to be there to appriciate. The only thing that pissed me off was the English above us ripping seats up to throw on the pitch, which got nowhere near and landed on us in the lower teir. That meant we headed to the back where the Garda had us penned in.

Granted, they didnt wreck half the main stand but all in all they gave as good as they got, believe me. If you were going back to Dun Laoghaire for the ferries then you only had the luxury of the Garda to contend with.

If you were going back to the city it was something else, I dont mind admitting that it was proper fcukin scary, anyone who was there and says otherwise is a fcukin liar, you had to be proper on your toes that night.

When the Garda stopped all the Darts they laid on for us south of river, meaning we had to get north of the river over the bridges, we were sitting ducks. Barely a taxi driver in Dublin would take an Englishman that night and every mad Irishman in the town wanted a bit of you.

It was one of those instances where you got back to your hotel bar in one piece, and laughed your bollocks off once you got there. It took us about 2 hours, in the days before mobile phones, and by fcuk it was edgy! :::::lol:::::

Sheffield United away, 3rd round FA Cup 1963. Was postponed about a dozen times and eventually played early March, I think.

Was on't coach halfway across yon Pennines (no motorways - them were hard travelling days, lad) for one postponement. Got to the eventual game ..... and we got wiped 1-3 -ish.

George will know the details.

Made me laugh that did.

Quite possibly one of the most accurate descriptions I've read about that day/night.

The Irish just wanted English blood: irrespective of whether you'd done owt wrong or not.

What about the Middlesbrough home game 2005 over xmas,

Bolton's Premiership match at home to Middlesbrough has been postponed due to the bad weather sweeping the country.

The game was called off after a failure in the undersoil heating at the Reebok Stadium which left the pitch frozen.

A Bolton spokesman said: "The undersoil heating system has failed to work in the central areas of the pitch.

Think Sam rested afew at Sunderland on Boxing day for this game then was called off. Was our only home over xmas that year, I think.

opps just read topic again :good:

Semi Final of the Coca Cola. Drove up from London that night for that game too, without a ticket for the sold out game. Managed to get one for the re-arranged game however.

Luton away in the cup, 01(?). Crewe away the season before. AFAIK the only postponed game at the Reebok was a cup game v Cardiff. Oh and Boro over Christmas a couple of years ago. So make that 2.

I rememeber a cup match at Burnden in the late 70s, got to Burnden about 12.30 there were hundreds of cardiff fans already there, the game was called off, but I cannot remember what for.

I was at that game. I'd travelled up on the Cardiff City supporters club coach from Caerphilly. Waterlogged pitch I think.

Was waterlogged. Remeber my old feller taking me in The King Billy instead.

Port Vale about 10 years ago.

Mini bus landed about 10 to 3 thinking where the fcuk is everyone.

Ended up going on a sesh in Wilmslow instead much to the bemusement and delight of the stuck up bastrd locals.

That was a boxing day. I travelled down from Newbury for that game and arrived to find snow and a frozen pitch.

Some cracking memories jogged here folks =D>

The Swindon one was a pain as I drove up in what was the worst rain I've ever driven in only to hear it was off just as I got as far as Halifax. Bloody Spurs - we'd just got out of the boozer and were going up a tube escalator when copper coming the other way told us it was off. The Grand National day Crewe one we were in the boozer, I went for a piss, got back to the bar and the games off

getting out of the Everton game after half time was scary - the crush on the ramp down from the Paddock was usual, but what was not was the fact you were walking over fresh snow. Anyone slipping would have been killed - quite literally.

luton away mid 90's, fa cup match. sat in a local boozer and local dibble came in to tell us match was off, apparently frozen pitch, wasn't even that cold.

played a week later drew 1-1 and won the replay 6-2

This may have already been mentioned but am sure Luton at home 94ish was called off - Wed night - went round back of Burnden terrace to watch players train on placky pitch, I remember talking to a keeper who was on loan, walton I think????

When i was a kid i used to hate "walking down the manny road" when loads of people were walking in the opposite direction, eventually one would say - " It's off son- wather logged" And BB's little heart sank :cray: :D

Am sure made my way down to Leyton Orient in the 80's and it getting called off about 2pm ish

I do not know what year it was, maybe a statto knows.

Leyton Orient once held the record for the longest time since a match had been postponed on their home pitch. From what I remember I think it was about 10 seasons.

Anyway we were due to play there when the run came to an end. I remember travelling down in the heavy rain, the radio kept updating us with the latest London matches that were being called off. We parked up and went into the nearest pub to the ground about 12.15 for the 3 O Clock kick off with the news at the time that ours was the only match in London that hadn't been postponed. At 12.30 they called it off.

In the pub were some west Ham lads that had come over to find Bolton fans for a fight (like you do). We decided just to have the one pint before heading back home.

Another I remember as a lad was Villa away about 1980, I thought it was over xmas, got to the A38 on supporters club coach before we heard game was called of got back to Burnden to watch Bolton reserves play Man u reserves, checked the stats site and we did not play them at xmas, anyone shed light on this game.

Another game that was called off was a match at Bristol City I think it was a cup tie in the late 70s , it was re-scheduled the following midweek, I remeber a bolton fan kitted out in wanderers regalia, blowing his horn ( lever ender in LA), for some reason we stood on a terrace with all the bristol city fans, we got battered that night and all I can remeber is the bristolian accents shouting Tricky Tommy all night long.

I can't believe you wrote this Mounts. I was just about to write this :good:

I travelled to this match (non-match) on supporters club coach as well. I clearly remember getting to Birmingham within touching distance of Villa Park. The coach didn't stop it just turned round and went straight back to Bolton. It was prob only about 45 minutes before kick off time.

I very rarely went on the supporters coach even in them days, I clearly remember two characters that were on the same coach as me, Graham and the bloke with the skin tight stretch jeans and denim jacket (Jed I think his name is).

Possibly ding dong doo was on as well. His dad did coach stewarding in them days.

There were some women that travelled on there every match as well.

I would guess this match to be 78/79

bit of an obscure one this

in me dark n distant i remember getting to manchester rd and the game being called off

would be about 76 is my guess

anyway, in my mind it was a friendly and gordon banks should have been playing

im thinking a friendly v stoke due to us both being out of the cup?

hereford twice in one season -first game due to frost??? when a hereford fan got knifed, and second postponement due to fog

We drove to that one, I remember going to Wolves - Coventry (?) after realising our game was off

Glad you brought that one up Mounts. We got all the way there; parked up and went for a wander. Ended up in a rough bar a couple of miles from the ground. No hassles at all. Got tanked with a bunch of West Indian blokes, no Villains remotely interested in having it.

I was thinking about that game myself, wasn't sure if I'd imagined it!

It must have been a late call off as I'm sure I recollect walking down to Burnden not knowing that the game was off. Could it have been 1975? Bolton and Stoke were both out of the FA Cup in the 3rd round that year.
