Our Amir

I was just watching the advert for the fight on Saturday and thought how pissed off Mr ITV must be. They have paid a fortune before we knew if he was any good to show him sparring a load of nobody's and then the minute he gets a decent fight he fooks off to Sky Box Office.... What a shit house.

don't you just hate how smug i am this morning..

i don't hate him because of his skin colour, check through my previous threads..

i've praised his britishness in the face of hostility from muslim fanatics..

i just think/know now been proved he's over hyped and over rated..

yes, fair play,he will definitely have to fight this guy again and win,if he is ever going to get proper recognition now

but i wasn't having a dig at you personally about the resentment of his asian origins

i still think he's got the ability to do well....if he can wear an astronauts mask

I've never seen Calzaghe critised for being proud of his Italian heritage or the Welsh saying he's a wop, but he's our wop.

Maybe cos calzaghe is liked in wales, he has been there are done it, one of the most succesfull boxers ever, Khan is a jumped up little prick, who is doing everything in his power to be disliked

True enough, but it's not as apparent as it is with Khan.

think thats my point though..

loads of taffs i know will not support calzaghe because of his constant italian references but with khan its worse..

in todays climate its too easy to point out his colour or religious beliefs as a tool against him..

i dislike him because it was over hyped and over rated from the off, right from his staged rematch with the cuban that won gold..

You can put most pro boxers in that bag tho'

Thanks to checking records at boxrec I've found an interesting comparison.

this was his 19th pro fight; Nigel Benn's 19th pro fight was against Anthony Logan. Benn's chin was not the greatest in one sense, but made up for it with dogged defence when rattled and then had the power to come back.

As you can see, his comeback in that 19th fight was one of the sweetest knockdowns you could hope for:

Khan is my favourite of the Bolton celebs.

In with the Bolton fans at the Plovdiv away match, used to have the BWFC logo on his shorts, keen to mention BWFC in his interviews.

I find it strange that Bolton people take pleasure in him losing.

Khan will go anywhere for a freebie. Seen at Man U reguarly. There watching Liverpool in Istanbul. Hardly seen at Reebok until surprisingly last Saturday..to show his face and promote tickets i think.

Wanderers badge wearing is more of a business gimmick, what with him getting training and using facilites at the club etc.

The guy always speeds round like a prick still in big cars by all accounts, even after thrashing down Bradshawgate and knocking that guy over who eventually died.

He for publicity had army lads training at his gym, then strangely was unable to present them with their medals even though they were there. Is he that genuine?

What is his favourite film? Gone In 60 seconds

aye, cos theyve said you're not welcome if you dn't have our badge on your shorts

i think not

what did he die of, a broken leg?

what a pisser

then obviously it ain't that obvious is it?

Obviously :)

I guess my point was that Benn was slightly older but they were both on their 19th fight; Benn's summed up the rest of his career pretty well, and I suspect Khan's will as well. Benn often found himself tagged, but he'd get out of it somehow (up to a limit anyhow eg Watson him doing eventually) thanks to willpower as much as owt (eg the start of thew McLellen fight when he was literally knocked out of the ring). And maybe that willpower was forged in those early years where he wasn't driving flashy cars around and banking big tv money. Of course it's not Khan's fault that he's got the lifestyle so early - and in the end that's what he's in the business for - but comparing the two fights at identical times in their careers does suggest at an important cotrast - one that separates World Champions from others.

What a load of shite that is. How long did it take you to make all that up?

Obviously :)

theres the other bit that shows i wasnt making things up, whatever a few muppets on here may. went to plovdiv, but all the way 2 istanbul for them too!

happy now chaps?

I am pretty neutral on my feelings for him. I understand the feelings folk have about his attitude & the speeding lark BUT on the subject of the Liverpool matches, I think it is a piss poor arguement for disliking him:

a ) Some of his family are Liverpool fans and I know that through his contacts he gets them tickets and so why not go along with them.

b ) I went to a champions league match at Anfield last season. I'm not a Liverpool fan, I'm a Bolton fan who loves football and so to be offered the chance watch one of the best games of the tournament (v Arsenal) I took the opportunity and really enjoyed it.

c ) Would you turn down tickets if offered?

Casino and Horwich, who was right and who was wrong? Was it made up shite then?

Please refer to my post then, and advise.

Thanks in advance.

As you probably know, Benn had grown up in Ilford and had done time in the army, far from the mollycoddled life Amir has had.

But then to be fair Amir doesn't lack fighting spirit, he just cannot take a punch...

Benn was a nutter anyway, as he said himself after about a dozen fights 'I'm sick of fighting these Mexican Roadsweepers' !

Ha ha I was only asking your opinion b4 Bobcat

Everone knew he'd been done for speeding! Its not like he's the first person ever to be done for that.

Went watching the European cup final, he aint ever gonna see BWFC in it so why not go and watch another team with his mates? Plenty off here went to UEFA cup final last season.

You've just made the Man Utd thing up

He's got a manager who fcuked sommat up. We've got a manager who fcuks up.

Great quote from Nigel Benn at

http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44680

when asked about how knockdowns felt

Q: What does it feel like being knocked down?

NB: You go into a dark room and it's down to your conditioning how fast you get up.

Q: And what was the worst pain you ever felt?

NB: I'll fight Mike Tyson all day long, I don't care. That kind of pain goes. But the pain a woman inflicts when she twists the knife lasts for years.
