Surprised to hear Portsmouth have only sold 2300 tickets so far for their trip to Guimaraes , their

first ever match in Europe. It just goes to show what great support we actually had in our eufa cup runs,

clubs like Portsmouth would consider themselves bigger than Bolton (they were boasting that if A SMALL CLUB LIKE BOLTON could take 4000 they would take 10000!) but our latent support comes to the fore for the bigger games , we have hundreds of fans who rarely go to the Reebok but will travel 2000 miles to watch us in Europe because they love the big occasion. I bet Blackburn and Middlesbrough rarely had the support we regularly got in Europe. It was fashionable to watch us away in Europe , pity its not fashionable to watch us at home . But i think we still have more support than many clubs in the premiership , they just prefer watching us in the pub at the moment. We are not as small as some of our own fans think either.

Ryanair, TAP, Iberia, Swiss and Lufthansa all do London Gatwick to Porto.

 

It's less than 60 miles from portsmouth to gatwick, I reckon.

Ryanair from Stansted, that's how we went and Portsmouth is closer to that than us.

 

Rangers were playing in Porto on the Weds so the cost of flights was up anyway, Pompey are a massive club and have no excuses.

Just to remincise about Guimaraes for a minute.

 

I was going through a crap divorce at the time and a mate of mine who I sit with at the Reebok said I should go with them.

 

So I thought fcuk it,more to life than ex's and bills,got the money together and went with them on the 3 dayer with Wanderersways.(first trip in Europe watching the whites)

 

I had the best few days of my life ever (apart from seeing junior fbat being born).Stayed in Porto at the Ipanema,top hotel,very well organised.

 

Went to the Porto v Rangers game with a few rangers fans I had met who were brilliant.They looked after me throughout.

 

Shame it kicked off in the square after's though cos the anglo scottish relations were going so well.

 

Went to the Guimaraes game next day and stayed in the square with all the flags everywhere.

 

When Vaz te grabbed the equaliser,it topped a great trip off.

 

So I look back on it 3 years ago and think that trip was the turning point of things and am a better person for the experience.

The RS didn't even fill their end in Marseille & Villa took f?ck all to Bulgaria, I watched the match and there appeared to be no more than 500 in that ground. And we officially took 3,554 to Portugal, which is 1200 more than their official figure so no, I doubt they're taking 6k. We shall see though when the match is on the tv as I'm sure if they did take shit loads they'll try and get in Marseille stylee.

We took about 750 to Belgrade, which surprised me. It came weeks after many people had already done their single trip to Munich, so cost with it approaching Xmas comes into play.

 

It's Pompey's first ever European away and it's ridiculously easy to get to compared to ours in Bourgas, Bulgaria, yet we are taking similar numbers. Pompey = shit support.

We took more than them, big deal. They might get someone later in the tournament that we have already played and they might take more than us.
