It's always been a problem with Gardner too. That's two goals in about 5 years (yesterday and Munich), and he misshit them both.

Both Taylor and Riga are more of a goal threat than he is.

gardners been a left back for the last six years for gods sake! how many goals dya expect him to score?

he also gives us a BIT of pace, more than taylor does.

I realise i'm fairly alone in this, but i actually quite like the bloke - he's articulate,he's honest, and he doesn't court the media like Fat Sam, and he keeps any possible signings quiet until he's actually got his man , and he kept us up against all odds last season. He took most of the flak for Lisbongate, but i'm not convinced it was even his descision to leave decent players at home.

I'm not saying he's the man to take BWFC forward, but if he could have us hovering around mid-table and was more adventurous in his tactics (especially at home) - then i'd be fairly happy.

nice post BB

to plenty others

so whatever he does you won't give him a chance

what a load of bullshit

you deserve all you get

and next time he says 'this lot will never support me' don't come crying

Cassie - tantrum time is it? ;)

Bogsy - the key paragraph:-

"I'm not saying he's the man to take BWFC forward, but if he could have us hovering around mid-table and was more adventurous in his tactics (especially at home) - then i'd be fairly happy."

Says it all. From his past record, you know it is unlikely to happen, I know it and Casino knows it too. If it did, he would probably have 95% support instead of 95% anti.

95% anti???

nah.

95% anti???

nah.

Agreed... Must be up at 98%+

I must be in a very small minority then.

He's wasted this season by buying badly in the summer.

We needed a creative midfielder and a goalscorer. If not a goalscorer then a pacy striker, but we got neither. The ?15 million he spent should have provided at least one of those.

For buying badly i wouldn't trust him with any money in January and would get rid.

Looking at the fixtures,if we lose at Hull it could easily be 6 straight defeats and that will be the end for Megson, with us in the bottom 3 to start with.

With the tough run coming up,Hull is as big a match as City for Megson. We won't beat Liverpool,Sunderland away,Chelsea or Villa away with the toilers Megson bought. Those easier matches he couldn't win earlier in the season will do for him.

Hull is a must win for Megson. Not for BWFC to avoid relegation, but for Megson to still be in a job going into Christmas.

Sorry George, you normally talk sense but that is just utter horseshit.

FWIW I'd give him till the end of the season. He earned this extra season last year in my eyes.

Well,he made 3 major signings this summer.

Shittu for ?2 million.Bad signing..Ben Haim,Ngotty,Laville and Thome are examples of better defenders that Allardyce brought in for less.

Muamba.Ok ball winner but not worth ?5.75 million after appearances. We needed that money spent on a creative midfielder not a ballwinner. We already had McCann,O'Brien and Nolan who can do that job.

Elmander.Worse signing than Shittu .For a club record fee i don't expect him to take 6 months to settle in.We've got 1 goal after 11 league games from him and that was the 3rd in a 3-1 win against poor opposition.Anelka showed last season that with a poor midfield a quality striker can still score goals, this lad can't.

I hear it's impossible to work the transfer market like Allardyce did in some quarters.Zaki at Wigan and Geovanni at Hull are examples of two excellent signings by smaller clubs than us this summer who disprove that theory.

George, you know better than that and I know you do.

Whilst Shittu isn't the greatest player in the world, we are talking about totally different times. A "clogger" these days does cost around ?2M that's the way football is. You can't compare todays prices with what we paid for people 3,4,5 and 6 years ago.

When Shittu cost ?2M, TBH actually cost ?5M so the comparison should be made there, not compairing what we paid for him 4 years ago

the other day you say brown wouldn't leave a bigger club to come to bolton, make your mind up.

also Anelka took until the 25th of november to score his first league goals for bolton.

I think Muamba is worth the money.

I think Muamba is worth the money.

agreed. looks a bargain to me.

potential to become top class.

Of megson's signings:

Muamba and Cahill will be top drawer and Taylor is a good player.

Jury's still out on Elmander and Steinsson.

No i didn't say that.

The sort of poster who mocks the size of our club by saying Hull are bigger is one who is trying to defend the performance of Gartside/Megson.I am not one of those.

All i stated is that i didn't think Phil Brown would leave Hull to come back.I didn't give a reason why.

To clear this up,the reason i stated Phil Brown wouldn't come back is that i think he would look upon Hull as more likely to achieve some relative success over the next few seasons than Bolton.

If it came down to which was the bigger club then i would expect Phil Brown to leave Hull for Bolton.

If those Anelka goals were the ones against Arsenal then we are going to be waiting a long time for Elmander to match that standard from the evidence so far.

That is unlike Horridge.I thought he was like me in that he would defend the stature of the club to the hilt, but be critical of the human beings on the payroll if he felt they weren't performing.

Could there be time, hopefully sometime soon, if results continue, Mr Megson might be accepted?

2 cracking results in the last two games.

Nothing to get carried away with yet.

Jussi has been MOM in both games.

Theres a fine fine between winning and not winning. Thankfully, we have managed to get 6 points from the last 2 games. Those results could of easily been different.

We did better than I expected during our last 6 matches, I can't see us getting many points in our next 6. That will put us back down the table IMO.

If Megsons not going to go, can we get rid of Alan Cork?

you're not wrong

if only those nil nils v west brom and blackburn had gone our way, eh?

A crucial win yesterday, however we are favourites to lose the next 5 games. Lets see how Megson's position looks after then.

I agree largely with George's comments earlier in this thread, except I would say Megson did try to buy a goalscorer in Elmander, and there weren't too many obvious better options around at the time. Elmander may still come good.

Megson, if he remains, should indeed take a leaf out of the Allardyce / Brown / Bruce book when it comes to transfers. As well as Geovanni, Cosuin, King, Zayatte at Hull, Valencia and Palacios at Wigan are examples of cheap buys of the kind we use to get. I did read recently that Zaki would cost ?7.25m if signed permanently for Wigan, so I am not sure that is a great deal, particularly as his loan is non binding and he can go off to another club at the end of the season.

Or gone the other way, we could of easily have lost against BB and WB (Or sneaked a win)
