Allardyce

Just seen this in the paper

Allardyce, 54, who was interviewed by Niall Quinn, the Sunderland chairman, before Keane?s appointment in August 2006,

Now wasn't the fat lad still our manager at that point?

he deserves more supporters than detractors.

And it is possible to greatly appreciate what the man did but still think he had his faults. It's not a case of one or the other. I, for one, never thought we'd play european football or run the top 4 close and think he did a great job in helping us achieve what we did... Still think he handled the England thing poorly as well as his exit from the club though.

agree completely and I also think he seems very desperate when any job becomes available that he is interested in. he has already released two statements to the press and keane has only been gone a week

Right - how can a bloke who won nowt and publicly wanted out be described as one of our greatest managers ever?

Don't get me wrong he did a good job, but one of our greatest?

Nah, not having that.

The only two managers who've won something when at Bolton were Charles Foweraker and Bill Ridding. Putting Allardyce in third place behind those two seems fair.

Personally I'd have him behind Rioch.

In a couple of seasons, he turned round a club that had been on its arse for the best part of 15 years

By "anything" I take it you only mean the FA Cup. If not what about Armfield who won the 3rd Div and Greaves won the 2nd Div.

Yes, I did mean the FA cup. Armfield and Greaves both did good jobs but their successes came at a lower level.

Oh, you need to be at a higher level to win the FA Cup now? Better tell Bob Stokoe that his win with Sunderland counted for nothing because they were playing at a lower level!

League cup final, Fa cup semi, play off winner, play off semi, 2 European qualifications and keeping Bolton in the top flight for more than two consecutive seasons and making them an established premier league outfit with one of the weakest squads ever promoted. This at a time when many other second tier teams had more money, larger support bases and had recently spent more time in the top flight. He introduced new training methods and approaches copied by other clubs and brought in big name continental players using a scouting network and contacts he had developed in his prior years coaching and managing at lower levels.

Best manager since Ridding in the 50's when the playing field was much more level and the minimum wage meant smaller clubs could compete.

What did the Romans ever do for us eh? :unknw:

Mart, with this being a forum and all that, you have your opinion, others have theirs. He can bother with yours as much as you can bother with yours. So, please stop being a self righteous c?ckend, eh?

Personally I'd have him behind Rioch.

That bad, eh?

rivi?

I despair sometimes. Suspect that most of the detractors never went through the dark days.

BSA had faults eh? Well, fook me gently, don't say some folk actually have faults. I may have the odd one myself.

Rioch a better BWFC manager than BSA? Do give over FFS.

Well, fook me gently, don't say some folk actually have faults. I may have the odd one myself.

I find that very hard to believe.
