FANS watching Bolton Wanderers will be safer thanks to a new 40 camera CCTV system which can transmit via the internet.

Images of problems or trouble can be sent to police or club personnel and accessed via PDAs or terminals either remotely or locally.

The CCTV system, which will eventually number 100 cameras, was installed by IT security specialist Network Defence and helps security and health and safety officials to scan parts of the ground previously out of sight.

The company says the new system enhances levels of security and safety for fans and employees during match days.

Dave Atkinson, IT manager for BWFC, said: ?The new cameras not only capture any anti-social or dangerous behaviour but also act as a deterrent to those intending to behave in such a manner ? this helps to increase levels of security in and around the stadium.

?Since their installation the cameras have already proven their worth by capturing incidents, which have been invaluable in helping us resolve security issues.?

Just wondering like but bring hypothetical here: if one was to get ejected for an 'incident' when the orange jackets clearly provoked the person. Does the 'accused' have the right to demand to see the CCTV coverage, if there is any?

I would have said yes

The answer is: not there and then.

But you can ask to see it at a later date, providing you pay a ?10 Access to Data fee.

Hmmmm, now the cynic in me would think that a little odd if viewable immediately on a pda by club personnel.

looks like most on here will not be lasting a full 90 minutes from now on.

Thank God, I'll be more secure

Or will I?

The truth is this:

Despite numerous requests followed by warnings, people are still smoking in the toilets.

They will use the footage to eject smokers from the ground after getting the coppers to dish out the now-obligatory ?60/?80 on the spot fine.

Chan-users beware.

Traf, are you saying there's camera's in the bogs? Bloody perverts!

Whatever the cameras cost, I gaurantee I could have built a smoking shelter outside every stand and paid for a steward to check them out and check them in for half the cost.

I'm not saying there are camera in the toilets yet, but reading between the lines and seeing how much aggro there is at every home game between the stewards and the smokers.....................who knows?

The communal areas could be filmed, but not the cubicles.

Crowds are slumping, next season can only be worse with the ordinary fan and prawn sandwich brigade feeling the pinch. I think this is a great incentive, the football fan is already public enemy no. 1 with our the mickey mouse police force and orange warriors. We need to be reducing the amount of people who are being victimised/assaulted by people on an ego trip.

As someone highlighted, you can request all footage they have of you for a nominal fee. I think we should have an orchestrated mass request.

All subjective

You know, I know and they know that it can be made to look like the steward was right. Particularly with no audio.

I'd rather bankrupt myself buying in top dollar lawyers, I suppose they know that most people won't do that.

At Doncasters new non-smoking ground, everybody was smoking on the concourse, i think the stewards turned a blind eye because of the numbers, but with this CCTV lark, its going to cost you an arm and leg if you get caught in the Bok.

Actually Carlos, scrub the last remark from the record.

The more I think about this Draconian & Orwellian approach the more my blood boils.

I wouldn't mind so much if the headline read "Bolton fans to be monitored like pigs in a cage", but the pathetic attempt to promote this as a safety feature makes me want to puke.

Football fans have had to become used to be treated like terrorists, but to be patronised as if our collective IQ is equal to a lump of cheese is too much.

Of course, those same cameras, which are being used for approximately 100 hours per year at the Reebok, would be no use anywhere else in the borough 24/7/365 (sorry for the Americanism) would they?

I typed a reply but didn't post it as it was having a go at the club too much, but same vibe; whoever is getting off on publicising this needs to have a serious look at their career. This can't be what they aspired to.

Relative of mine got arrested a few years ago..didn't do owt wrong...when the question was asked about cctv ..miraculously the cctv weren"t working in the area he got nicked and he got off with it...Conclusion.orange warriors and OB are the cnuts who got bullied at school and are melts when confronted...fight the fckers all the way

Don't think so, it has to be time coded for it to be used as evidence in court.

Bollocks...dozens of witnesses hear what these "threatening stewards" come up with.

Easy tiger, I'm on your side

I'm saying that football fans simply don't have a voice when it comes to the authorities. The officials will always be heard.

I am not in favour of the new CCCTV system

Thats what i meant Spider.

If we all stuck together, these jumped up little pricks wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

20/30 lads against 1/2 orange cnuts/dibble might make the fcukers melt before it gets to court..

Don't always happen but it should do..

Been nicked before for things i haven't done but with no one as a witness thats where these cnuts win.

Anytime theres any bother at football, guilty or not, people need to be prepared to fight these gary nevilles and prove majority of folk are innocent and they are just getting nicked due to some inadequate cnuts testosterones rush

I think it'd be better if you used Carlos's brief, if you don't mind me saying.
