Guest Firthy Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 All you Sam haters sound like bitter ex-girlfriends. I don't like the fat bastard because of the way he left, but while he was here the sex was amazing. If you know what I mean. I got confused a bit.
Zico Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Course it compares. The first division of the 50's was made up of the best teams in the country. There was still relegation and promotion. You didn't automatically get a place because you had a northern accent. aye, and we, without anything like one of the best teams/backings/fanbases in the country managed to turn us into the most consistent performers outside the top 4 we were at the foot of div 1 when fat sam took over as well i suspect we were already an established top flight team and in a much better position to compete with the rest when the 50s mon took over
no balls Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Allardyce only got us into Europe the once. And let's be honest, the season between was for the taking if he'd have not been whoring himself to the FA!
mickbrown Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 aye, and we, without anything like one of the best teams/backings/fanbases in the country managed to turn us into the most consistent performers outside the top 4 we were at the foot of div 1 when fat sam took over as well i suspect we were already an established top flight team and in a much better position to compete with the rest when the 50s mon took over 50's mon won the cup without spending a penny on transfer fees.
Zico Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 50's mon won the cup without spending a penny on transfer fees. can probably assume then that most teams didn't either, i'd be interested to see the average spend and see where we lay and you know full well we got into the premier league and subsequently europe by spending the premier league equivalent of f?ck all
Gumbo Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Is this not the reaction sam is wanting? Fans disagreeing about HIM, THE MAIN MAN OF THE NIGHT! As it happens Bolton Wanderers are playing, need to get the backing of their own fans and get a result! Treat him the same as every other manager! He doesnt manage BWFC so he has fuck all to do with BWFC! Its up to our current manager to do his job and the players to perform
Zico Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 aye just ignore him doesn't mean can't remember what he did for us to pretend it never happened or is not as significant as it was though does though seem as bitter as he is arrogant
athywhite Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 aye just ignore him doesn't mean can't remember what he did for us to pretend it never happened or is not as significant as it was though does though seem as bitter as he is arrogant and a few chants of attack attack attack may get the message through to megson as for allardyce he,s history move on.
Ani Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 (edited) the guy is an arrogant cunt FACT. Name me a decent mager who is nt. If you take a job as a manager of a prmiership club and think you can put together a team to compete and beat the best in europe surely arrogance is needed. he did a great job for us and went onto bigger and better things, if manager of blackburn is where he thought he would end i would be surprised. may be he should have appreicated how good he had it at bolton and we should remember how good he was for us. the jilted boyfriend analogy is right but he has gone off shagging a good looking bird because the supermodels were nt interested and is now knocking a bird down the street. probably both wish we had done things differently but too proud to admit it. Rembrandt Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I don't disrespect Sam's achievements with us. He even got us challenging the top four big clubs briefly. In today's football world, that was amazing - even if not always entertaining. And he started from a relatively low base, forced to sell his best players. Definitely a legend. BUT .... he can't blame BWFC for fans being unhappy when he left. BWFC didn't make him say 'I need a break' then sign for Newcastle almost immediately. BWFC didn't make him raid his ex-club for backroom staff - despite (apparently) a 'gentleman's agreement' not to. A fan is a fan for life, and a manager who does things like that can expect stick for it. As for comparisons between eras, that's always difficult when the football environment around the club is always so different. But BW have never really been a BIG club, despite being League founder members, and that's partly why we've never won a top-level league title ..... or even been runners up. So three FA Cup wins in the 20's is definitely a major achievement, along with top-level finishes of 6th, 4th (twice) & 3rd. Likewise an FA Cup win & another Final appearance in the 50's along with top-level finishes of 6th, 5th (twice) & 4th was also a major achievement. But Sam's period at the club is up there with the best.
Rembrandt Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Oh, and ignore him tomorrow night. He's looking for a reaction from the Whites fans.

Take Hunt Off Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 You lose your best Charles Foweraker was Bolton's manager when we won the FA Cup three times in the 1920s.And as you say Bill Ridding in 1958 won the FA Cup I am not disrespecting Allardyce's achievements of losing an Fa Cup semi Final to Villa, losing a League Cup semi final to Tranmere and losing a League Cup Final to Boro.I am saying Allardyce's track record isn't as good as the managers who won trophies. complete tosh, different eras are not comparable .............how long do you think it will be before we WIN a major cup , you also being rarther sarky my friend regarding our losing finals methinks you never liked allaryce from day 0ne & you have failed to mention European qualification. one final thought regarding our forthcoming relegation dogfight ..............who would you prefer Megson or Allardyce ?????

One word - Portsmouth

Would that be the Allardyce off 6 years ago or the one from 3 years ago, because they became 2 different animals
Northern White Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 complete tosh, different eras are not comparable .............how long do you think it will be before we WIN a major cup , you also being rarther sarky my friend regarding our losingfinals methinks you never liked allaryce from day 0ne & you have failed to mention European qualification. one final thought regarding our forthcoming relegation dogfight ..............who would you prefer Megson or Allardyce ????? Megson every time... Because he's our manager and didn't walk away.
tylswhite Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 People are still papping on about Allardyce
tyldesley_white Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 People are still papping on about Allardyce So it would seem, and thats what he wants
Zico Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 One word - Portsmouth i'm glad you brought then up there are quite a few comparisons between the redknapp and the allaydce reigns where they came from how well they were established what they achieved for the clubs what happened to the direction of the club when they left (in some cases more than once) the opinions of the fans of the ex manager admittedly redknapp did it with far more money at his disposal but you know, let's not dwell on that but my point is, from the outside looking in, you'd have to say redknapp did a belting job for pompey and took them beyond where they'd been for a long time if ever wouldn't you?
Take Hunt Off Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 One word - Portsmouth Aye & how much money did old Arry spend to do it !!!!!!
Guest Firthy Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 and a few chants of attack attack attack Please god no. It's bad enough that you're so deluded you think a chant will affect Megsons tactics, never mind it being that stupid 'attack attack attack' nonsense.
Guest Holly_Goodhead Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 complete tosh, different eras are not comparable .............how long do you think it will be before we WIN a major cup , you also being rarther sarky my friend regarding our losingfinals methinks you never liked allaryce from day 0ne & you have failed to mention European qualification. one final thought regarding our forthcoming relegation dogfight ..............who would you prefer Megson or Allardyce ????? Allardyce said "I think if you look at my track record, there are not many people who can match it in the history of Bolton Wanderers" I pointed out that two Bolton managers have won major trophies and therefore have a better record than Allardyce. European football wasn't around until the 1960s so it was impossible to qualify when we won the FA Cup three times in the 20s.If it was we would have qualified more than Allardyce's twice. We would also have qualified more times in the 1950s than Allardyce's twice. I'd prefer Allardyce to be in charge than Megson....i'd also prefer Bruce,Brown or Moyes to be in charge than Megson. That doesn't have anything to do with two Bolton managers winning trophies and Allardyce not winning one though
Zico Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Allardyce said "I think if you look at my track record, there are not many people who can match it in the history of Bolton Wanderers" I pointed out that two Bolton managers have won major trophies and therefore have a better record than Allardyce. which sort of backs up his point, does it not? 2 is not many people are going on like he said he was the best ever and trying to then put down the last 8 or so like they don't amount to much
Guest Firthy Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Allardyce said "I think if you look at my track record, there are not many people who can match it in the history of Bolton Wanderers" I pointed out that two Bolton managers have won major trophies and therefore have a better record than Allardyce. Exactly, so Allardyce is right when he says "there are not many people", unless you consider 2 to be 'many'.
