Can you not just fill it with plastic balls and call it a ball pit? The kid'll love it.

also 6" joists will take me over my 130mm limit.

will 4" still do the job?

Spanner in works again....according to

http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/england/g...5315233135.html

should be min 150mm between top of slab and underside of timber. Assume reason being airflow.

So reckon 70 insulation & 60 sand/cement screed is the way to go. Light steel mesh for shrinkage cracking (A98)

So basically you should have listened to the woman right at the start

oh ffs...

right, back to airbricks, kingspan TF70 and and a shitload of screed.

at least its a much simple job now.

do i need screed?

father in law reckons 100mm kingspan and then just board it out.

Anyway good luck. You'll save yerself loads not employing a builder to manage it.

But only you to blame when it goes wrong :)

i can live with that.

Word of warning.

The floor will move if you just plonk floorboards down on top of 100mm kingspan.

What you going to fix the boards to? Screw into the kingspan? Dont be daft, it's glorified polystyrene.

You'll put weight on one half of the room and the floor will lift on the other like a see-saw.

:pardon:

If your worried about the airflow and all that goes with it, insulation and screed is the way to go but get someone in because you will fuck the screed up if you dont know what you're doing.

I thought you house building types could get round all your energy calculation stuff by bunging more insulation in the loft at the same time as you do a garage conversion or a conservatory :D

Round here they won't let you convert a garage unless you have 2 parking spaces other than the garage - and you're not allowed to pave over part of a garden to get another space.
