I can walk to work in 5 minutes so even I can't get lost doing that.

 

My main point is that was that the Hollywood style celebrity status of footballers is the crux of the demise of football. There is no longer an even playing field. Smaller town clubs are increasingly isolated.

 

Hyper wages have a knock on effect onto it being more expensive for the fans to go to the match. I've got lads I work with who are season ticket holders at the Emirates. They pay nearly ?1,500 a year for there STs. No wonder the atmosphere is shite there. It's full of middle managers and high wage earners who couldn't rustle up a chant if their life depended on it. It's great that a normal working class lad can earn millions a year for doing something he loves, but at what cost?

 

And talented as he is, he is still a fuckwit. Just strikes me as dim. He's just an extremely fortunate fuckwit

I hate the scum just as much as the next Bolton fan but it is what Beckham has done for the England team, and England the Country in Sport that sets him apart from the typical ex-red who I generally despise with a passion. If he was a 'one club' only man I might feel a bit different about it (I'm finding it hard to justify sticking up for an ex-red)

Two of my most hated footballers of all time are Cantona and Keane, mainly because of their attitude. Whatever you say about David Beckham his attitude and professionalism is first class.

I don't often disagree with biff, but I don't think he was out of order saying or doing anything regarding the L.A. move. He was thinking about the future for his family. He won't regret his time there because he raised the profile of himself and Posh in the USA enormously. This could be beneficial to all of them, including the kids. The marketing over there for products and films etc.

It means everything to him to play for us in the World Cup next year. He has sacrificed a lot financially (ok ok don't comment on this) and uprooting to go to Milan where he will have a slim chance of doing this, as opposed to no chance at all if he stayed in America creaming millions of dollars.

I'm probably in a minority of one but I really don't think Beckham is all that good a footballer. His only talent appears to be that he can kick a ball and I will concede he is very good at that. But can he beat a man, can he tackle and how often does he head a ball. The only argument for including him in any team is that there may be a free kick on the edge of the penalty area.
