Beckham - What A ****

Featured Replies

Oh give over, it's hardly mystifying why he's so sellable is it? Put it this way, if Iain Dowie or Terry Hurlock was as good as Beckham at football and married to a spice girl, would they be on the side of Selfridges in their scruts? I suggest they probably would not.

and he's a pretty boy (apart from the tattoos)

Pretty? Yes. Does he have that 'bloody hell, I bet he's mucky & I would' look. IMHO, absolutely not.

a 3 page thread on this, like him or loathe him he is someone people talk about.

if i could have spent my life playing football and now be worth millions with a wife and kids that i clearly dote on,i think i would be happy.

He's got the same management team as Murray. They release a statement to the press to say Beckham sends his best wishes to reverse any residual public opinion in England that Murray hates the English. Nothing better than the ex-England captain giving his blessing. This helps change the pre-conception of a dour scot and with make him a more bankable sports star.

Its a non-story and a a good PR job, according to our head of press division.

Not for me, I'm afraid. If the Queen or John Bull wished him well, I'd still think him a dour Scot.

He's a media whore

So,what does it matter, apart from being ex scum he's

seems a decent bloke,i would love to life his lifestyle

as would most on here,i think some people are just

jealous of him

I'll agree he does seem a decent bloke (not the brightest bulb in the pack admittedly).

It's only human to be jealous of someone's wealth.

A point I've sort of eluded too is that its people like him ruin the very heart of the game with their exorbitant wage demands. Make as much money as you want in other activites away from the game (as long as that doesn't become your primary focus), but don't get excessively rich at the working man's expense.

Fuck me I'm turning into a socialist

Did you read that comment through before you posted it Biff?

Just asking like. <_<

Yes I did read that comment and if you don't take it out of context but read it with the rest of my post you will understand what I am saying which is that Beckham takes a good free kick and is quite good at putting in crosses but he doesn't take defenders on and beat them; he doesn't tackle or if he does it's usually a foul; and I cant remember him heading a ball.

So wheres the money going if the players don't get it?

When we qualified for Japan/South Korea 2002 at OT, Beckham was playing Greece at OT almost single-handedly. He also has the best right foot in world football.

I know they are in different eras but Billy Wright is a case parallel to Beckham. Wright was England captain who married a member of a female pop group and won 100 international caps. However proportionally, Wright never received the publicity that Beckham now gets.

Bar the free kick at the end, he was a headless chicken that day

Was he balls.

That's how I saw it.

And best right foot in World football? You sure about that?

Totally.

Nah - he didn't even have the best right foot at his club last season

The cost to the fan would not be as high if they didn't get paid that much. Sure, it'd be naive to say that the club and shareholders won't cream any of it off, but they are a business and that's what they do.

If a club think they can justify paying someone 50k a week ontop of a 5million outlay then it's we, the fans that pay for it ultimately. Whether we be paying more to watch the match (admittedly not so much applicable to BWFC) or an extra 50p for a pie, it's all out of our pockets. Would we be paying 40 quid for a shirt that should probably retail at half that price if the club wasn't paying out x thousand pounds a week?

Basically the price to the fans has risen disproportionately over the last 20 or 30 years in comparison with the 'service' they receive. Save a few new shiney stadiums a football match is a football match, whether it be played in 1980 or 2009

He also has the best right foot in world football.

Don't agree with that.

For one, Phil Brown was far superior.

I was using current tense. If you want to talk past tense, Derek Scott.

I'll agree he does seem a decent bloke (not the brightest bulb in the pack admittedly).

F?ckin hell Sklidgy!!! I bet you said that without even looking the mirror.

Seems like DB is more popular with WW posters than half our current team. I find this quite shocking. Once a Munich always a Munich!! Well done to him for scoring that free kick for England that time but, and i mean this from the bottom of my heart, fuck Beckham, his wife, his family, his friends, his next door neighbours, his window cleaner, that slag he boned in madrid, anybody who defends him on a Bolton Wanderers forum. Come On You WHITES!!!
