I would say no. Personally, I like the fella and I think it was out of character. Barton on the other hand is a vicious thug who has been in trouble on many, many occasions.

This needs a thread of its own the utter utter scum.

The punishment should fit the crime in my opinion. The victim should be allowed to give Gerrard a few uppercuts and put him on his scouse arse and then while he's down Kevin Nolan should be allowed to stamp on his chest. Simple really.

We have only heard the prosecution side up to now so of course it will sound like he is guilty. When the defence have had their say those who think he is guilty may change their minds. In my mind what happened is no different to what happens in a few pubs on a saturday night but because there is a celebrity involved it is blown up out of proportion.

I disagree. In their position they should know better. He was clearly the aggressor by going over to the bloke & not just leaving it. We used to get the odd billy big time footballer in the pub I used to work in, they got told.

As for punching in self defence, no mate. you put your hands to your face if you are defending yourself, you punch when you want to hurt the other person. He's not very bright but you'd expect his barrister to be. What a poor defence that is imo.
