Losing 7-8000 fans and/or half your season ticket holders in 3 years.

I remember when the Reebok was being built and people said they should have made it 35-40K capacity. I'm glad they didn't because 17k crowds would have looked completely lost in a larger stadium.

 

My theory on reduced crowds is TV has created armchair experts (we all know some, never seen a live game in their life or played at any level but they can talk the nation to sleep on their chosen big club). People can watch 3 or 4 games a week on TV and are less inclined to pay to watch a live game at the weekend. The ones who do are the proper fans but unfortunately for Bolton we have a smaller pool than the larger cities. I would never choose to watch a Bolton home game in a pub or at home If there was any chance I could get there in person but many would and do.

With a capacity crowd every week, those comments were partly justified but just like Stoke are finding out, once you become established in the Premiership the excitement of being here dies off, and just like a new toy at Christmas, you move onto something else.

The fact is that the shine has gone off the Reebok for a lot of people, in addition to this we have come from a top 7 situation and Eufa cup playing teams from massive cities and it now feels for many people that Bolton have gone as far as it is possible with our limited budget, in addition to this they have alienated a lot of fans with there gaffs over the last few years, add to that the decision to appoint what is regarded by many as an unadventurous managerial appointment and you have a recipe for low crowds. I do not know what will reverse the trend however I would suggest that the manager should be forced to become more interactive with the support and the players made to cultivate a closer relationship with the support. I think that the issues regards our style of play has been partly addressed but a lot more is still to be done.

apparently next years tv money is double this years, which will result in most clubs making the same money they made this year even if they gave season ticket away for free.

 

now i know that some clubs dont need to reduce prices, and the ones that do, will be reducing their revenue but i reckon the only way forward for increased attendances, it proper dirt cheap match and season tickets.

Cheaper tickets are always welcome but to be honest as Casino has already pointed out, Boltons home attendances are about where you would expect them to be. I am not at all surprised to see us dip below 18,000 last night and there are a number of factors for this.

Imagine that, 17,000 folk on at the Reebok! Is it only 30 years ago? When Bolton were one of 8 NW based teams in the top English league. Bolton will be getting regular 100,000 gates by then, of course, following the unfortunate positions of most of the other local teams whose wealthy American and Middle eastern benefactors landed them all in the mire when they pulled their interest in football.

I couldn't care less either. I bought 4 season tickets this year, I bought 5 last year. I have lost my passion for this club-team. I gave the 4 tickets away for the West Ham match & I will be giving them away more often for night games. Next season out of the 4 S/T holders there's only my lad who wants to come next season.

 

I couldn't even get upbeat about the City game. I think I need a rest from the Reebok so I can recharge my emotion batteries. A few years ago there were no fcuker more passionate than me, now I just can't be arsed. I've been down this road before & came back, but it's getting a habit now slagging everything off, Atmosphere, Reebok, Parking, The Orange Warriors, the ethnics who serve the shite they call ale & the football thats played.
