Haiti

People seem to think it's funny as all that's been posted about it are jokes. That's pretty fucked up in my book but hey ho.

An estimated 45,000-50,000 people dead, with many more facing an uncertain future. Is there anything we can do? And should we bother? All the charities are fucking loaded anyway, hardly any cash would get to those in need. Should we just be making up jokes or should our humanity mean we should at least consider helping out in some small way?

They are not on holiday for god's sake, they're flying in more aid and troops than anyone else. The American response has been very fast and I don't think anyone can criticize them for their efforts.

All I'm doing is passing on words from one of the British Firemen who is there.

You make up your own mind on what the press is reporting.

5 Live was quite critical of the US actions, they said that even people in UN hospitals didn't have enough water to urinate. And that's the people who have received help.

Looks like it's not just Yatsey's mate having problems witht he yanks out there.

From the beeb

France's co-operation minister, Alain Joyandet, had suggested on Monday that the US was "occupying" Haiti and urged the UN to "clarify" the US role.

Several agencies complained at the weekend about not being able to get aid through the heavily congested airport, which is being run by the US military.

The French can fuck off, as far as I'm concerned. The truth is plainly self-evident; something catastophic has occured and the Americans have done more than anybody to try and help. They've deployed 10,000 blokes in the space of a week. You think that's fuckin easy? To just click your fingers and make it happen? In one week and with no prior notice, they've sent as many blokes as we've got in Afghanistan. And as for the airport complaint, Jesus Christ. Port au Prince probably received about 30 incoming lights a day prior to this, on probably pretty modest sized aircraft, whereas now they've got things like C17s turning up several times a day. Those things are fucking huge and I imagine existing American expertise on Haitian airspace is, erm, fuck all. It's a far bigger task to offload one C17 full of food and aid than it is to empty 100 passenger flights. I daresay it's not been done perfectly, but given the scale of the task and the lack of preparation time, the American rsponse has been exemplary.

Again, the French, with their shameful record of complicity in a number of African civil wars like Angola, as well as the Rwandan genocide, can fuck off.

After three, everybody shout FUCK OFF FRANCE.
