Election Debate

Clegg Certainly play the "honesty is the best policy" card tonight.

I guess the big question is do voters believe him.

Could there be a major change on the horizon?

Plenty of other countries are going to bugger themselves up, but it won't be as painful as being present when your own country goes down the drain.

I don't think people realise how far up the creek we are - we have no divine right to live the nice lifestyle we've had - countries are constantly rising and falling, and we've been falling for too long now, and have entirely used up any credit we had built.

The welfare state we have is entirely unfundable, so you can vote for it all you like, but it won't be here in 25 years time.

They'd rather continue to vote "Deluded", leave 'em be

Is a deluded voter any worse than a brainwashed voter?

I hate the fact that a large percentage of Labour heads have a chip on their shoulder and you either agree with the view they have or you are scum.

As highlighted in this thread.

Same apply's to the tories TBF.

Unless you subscribe to the notion that the whole country will go to hell in a hand cart without tory rule you are a deluded lefty.

sorry..where do you live again.....son.

Not that it's owt to do with you but, born at Townleys and lived there for 33 years, sonny. Family still based there and it is still home to me. Eligible to vote but don't on principle.

Like to see the place being as good as it can be - just for old times sake.

Now, haven't you got a Socialist Worker or summat to be reading?

One guy I know was telling me its a disgrace that Torie voters are allowed onto Deal or no Deal, I wish I was joking.

Had he said daily mail readers i'd agree! :D

don't have a political affiliation myself, will be voting Pirate Party at the elections, because none of the parties will be able to fix the bigger picture that's got the country in the shitty state it's in now.

Is a deluded voter any worse than a brainwashed voter?

Probably not

As you point out elsewhere, we need to understand how we are in such a mess and unite the country to achieve a solution.

Ending delusion is a critical early step.

There's plenty of folk here with those qualities & a desire to make this place a better country to live in.

There's not enough taxpayers to pay for Brown's largesse as it is

Fucking lucky it's a Friday night.

If the markets were open tomorrow there'd be a run on the pound - I just hope things aren't as mental in the Sunday polls or the downward spiral starts now.

(I've learnt in the past that when I write things assuming people know the consequences, I end up reposting 30 mins later, so for total clarity -

run on the pound ---> higher government debt repayment charges ------> country further in debt --------> run on the pound etc

if you want to make that feel more personal, change the word government for mortgage, because rates are going to rise.

This retarded country is going to get what it deserves, and you won't be able to blame the Tories for it this time.

There will be a run on the pound and a drop in share prics on monday.

This will because the markets hate uncertainty, a hung parliament is a terrible result for everyone.

not one political party has the nouse to sort the problems of the country out, just imagine a committee of them trying to do it !

mortgage rates will raise eventually whoever wins the election, i thought from your earlier posts you had more about you than to use that as a scaremongering tactic, with a base rate of 0.5% predicting an increase is a bit like guessing what the chicken b the side of the road looking left and right might do next.

half way through your proffesional qualifications an then leaving the country ? how many stars you up to so far ? :D (only joking do nt get all indignant)

no chance of that.

They way I see it is this:

Anyone who votes one way because they (or their father/family) have always voted that way is a fucking knobber. Are you a person of sound mind who can make his/her own choice or a frigging sheep!?

Anyone who blames Labour and wont vote for them now because they sent our forces into Iraq and Afghanistan is a complete plum, all 3 major parties agreed with the action so whoever was in charge last time would make no odds.

Anyone who thinks that someone who is 'posh' can't possibly be the Prime Minister who will look after the 'working class' can scratch all parties then, they are all lead by so called 'posh' people.

Therefore, does that discount any of the three main parties? Nope. So who do I go for then? None of the parties have much room to maneuver because of the economic climate, we are royally fucked for the next decade or more so what is the best way out? I personally don't know because I don't know enough about finance but to a layman (like me) surely the party that spunked hundreds of billions on doubling the public purse for very little effect has to be accountable?

Whats left? The Tories and Lib Dems. If you are a working class bloke who usually doesn't like politicians then the posh Tories are bottom of your list, regardless if they are the best party to get the country back on track, they are a bunch of stuffy nosed cunts. But are the Lib Dems any better? Well, they had less MPs affected by the expenses scandal but then again they have less MP's anyway. Nick Clegg comes across as a decent enough bloke and the old duffer behind him seems pretty clued up with economics going off what those in the know say about him. Great, we have a party to go for but hang on, they also have loads of wonderful ideas on taxing the rich, the very people who generate the money in this country. Then theres the Tories who want to cut the deficit much sharper which the others say will damage the recovery. They also prefer a smaller government meaning large job cuts for the public sector. Many see this as a good thing but more unemployment isn't great either.

I'm fucked if I know but one debate on the TV isn't going to make my mind up, I will wait for all three and make my mind up after Reading bit more about the fuckers.

Christ I haven't half gone on like an old mare...

No, some good points there

I think you do make some good points and possibly the msot important is that you are in the same boat as the average man in the street in that you think the country is fucked but are not convinced any of the parties are the ones to sort it out.

Labour - all this has happened on their watch, so ahrd to see how they are attractive to anyone

Tories - you think given the above would be pissing it but their leadership is hardly inspiring and seem totally out of touch with people

Liberals - seem like a decent alternative on the surface but if you scatch below that what substance is there to them, surely the leadership of the country should be more than a personality contest

As I have said previouslly I have always voted Labour becuase of personal values but do not think i can this time, there is little about the Tories that attracts me, so that leaves the Liberals as the least bad of a bad bunch. I will vote be at this point no idea who for, strangely now the Libs have a chance of winnign a few extra seats I am more put off.

Agreed.Allowing amnesty for up to 1 million asylum seekers, and relaxing our border controls being two of them.

Wouldn't fret J. When the time comes to put a cross on paper, they will probably still be an irrelevance unless it's a hung parliament and they can use their seats as a bargaining tool.

Does anyone know what sort of majority is required to avoid this hung parliament b@llocks?

One party needs half plus one of the total number of seats (650)

Which is 326.

and seeing as wways is a measure of everything, 22 from 54 means were heading for the said stalemate.

The only problem I have with LibDems is their policiies

They even plan to abolish prison sentences of less than 6 months, to ease prison overcrowding - err how might that one work then Mr Clegg?

If the LibDems ever got in power we'd be just just be another European state overseen by Brussells, whilst spending our hard earned Euros.

There are some good points above, I am really undecided...

I disagree with a lot of Labour policies but i have seen my prosperity rise over the last 10 years.....

The tories cut in public spending could and most probably will affect my job...

The Lib Dems policies on European intergration, the Euro, immigration etc are a big no no for me...

I'm not sure what will convince me one way or the other..although i do like these suggestions...

Halt all immigration; deport criminal and illegal immigrants; offer legal immigrants financial incentives to return voluntarily to their countries of origin; give preference in the job market to "native Britons"; withdraw British troops from Iraq and Afghanistan; only commit British troops to conflicts which "directly affect" British interests; re-introduce corporal and capital punishment; withdraw from the EU
