Matty Taylor

Featured Replies

I'm one of the Very few who backed Taylor in this website and the graft he puts in makes him a very good player to have around his goals make him virtually priceless to a club like Bolton. Take his goals away over the last few years and we would be in the championship by now. The fans who slag him should hang there heads.

But backing him over a period when he is now saying he was ill and not playing well makes you loyal but misguided.

No player should expect to play in those circumstances.

The negatives of Matty Taylor are he is slow, tries to hard to play a hollywood ball, and his free-play game isn't great.

He can have it rather at the left back position or left wing and he doesn't look for a simple pass which could lead up to some nice build up play, he always seems to want to get the ball off the ground and play it into an area, sometimes asking the lesser mobile players like K.Davies to run onto a ball and then try and hold it.

Usually when he does this it rather goes out for a throw-in or the defence easily read it, when he's not facing the goal, he hesitates imo and doesn't know what to do, other than a hopeful ball down the line. But saying that our left side isn't has fluent as our right, Robinson hardly ever over-laps and doesn't him more options, maybe Matty doesn't trust his team mates so tries to win games on his own.

But he's capable of scoring goals, has proved he's great at set-pieces[not always]and plays with a lot of passion, he cares a lot, he doesn't like being dropped, that goes with all players, with Matty you can tell by his body language especially when leaving the pitch when he's subbed.

For all the negative, he still has the most shots in our team, probably the most along with Klasnic on target and has 8 goals. For a team like us he's a very good player to have, I wouldn't say he's a typical Owen Coyle player, but if he's only a sub and doesn't always start, we would struggle to find someone like Taylor to do the things he does well for the team.

A lot of players build up a reputation, and are easily judged when they don't play to their standards/what fans expect.

good post-agree with you to some extent, but he has been shit for most of the season, his fitness to me has let him down

As good a player as he is I dont think he fits into Coyle's profile of a winger.

His lack of mobility alone is enough.

There is no doubt his form had dipped and not for one minute would I advocate playing a player that is clearly out of form and short of confidence, I always felt Taylor had the ability to come back from this sticky patch. My issue is with so called fans slagging our own players off, the tone of the abuse was offensive to me so what Taylor must have felt I do not know. We seem to have picked up a large number of bile filled pricks who follow our club. I wonder ihow these fans would have reacted with some of the players we had in the 80s.

Nothing to disagree with there for me. Bolton fans have always had to have a scapegoat.

Just looking round the net for any info on our pre-season tour and came across an article in the Times, within the article was this paragraph about Matty Taylor, it clearly shows he is our hardest working player add that to the fact he is top scorer over the last couple of years and I think Bolton fans should be glad he is playing in a white shirt.

In 2007-08 they were up 27-28% on 2006-07,? he says. A ?high intensity? action, be it a run, tackle or turn, is one performed at greater than 75% of sprinting speed. Workaholic midfielder Matt Taylor averaged around 1.7km per game at high intensity last season and in one match hit 2km out of a total of around 13km covered. Imagine it: the equivalent of an eight-mile run, with one and a quarter miles at near-sprinting pace, within a 90-minute game. ?Bolton aren?t a huge club that can buy every player so we?ve got to ensure those aspects where we can compete, like fitness and mentality, are right,? Megson says. ?If our spectators leave the ground saying, ?The players weren?t good enough today? you can accept that a bit, but if it?s, ?The players cheated?, that?s a crime.?

And if he scored the winning goal against ManYoo in a Cup Final you'd be bothered ?

I don't get your (football) point.

I agree with this, but If we played an attacking full back it would compensate for what Taylor lacks.

I think he is a great player but this season he has gone through a patch were he's been shocking.

We seem to have picked up a large number of bile filled pricks who follow our club. I wonder ihow these fans would have reacted with some of the players we had in the 80s.

Well said Mounts :good:
