I know they always suggest you ask politely and don't book flights, etc.

If you ask nicely and there've no exams planned i can't see why not.

all schoos have to allow 2 weeks for all kids with out fines somethimg to do with muslims kicking up a fuss so aplies to ours as well :good:

It is very rich that schools tried to fine parents for holidaying in term when they look for any excuse to send the kids home for Snow,Locusts or any other bullshit excuse.

Where do you get your info from LW? Where do Muslims come into this? Is it merely fashionable to blame them for everything, even if, if your point is correct, their fuss-kicking has allowed us to take kids out?

Dont forget the 'inset training day' they tag onto the Monday at end of a half term holiday.

I take your kids are still at primary school ?

At moment with one at primary and one at secondary we have discovered that training days are sometimes added before the half term as well, however they are very careful to ensure that under no circumstances must the secondary school and it is feeder schools do this on the same day.

this avoids the horrible siuation when both kids would be off at the same time and you would only need 1 extra day of work.

personally i find it easier to choose your favourite child and take a day of bowling.pictures and nandos with them and send the other to the child minders.

You can write to the head and (if they agree) they will record an 'authorised absence' on your child's record.

If you don't they will register an 'unauthorised absence' and, if this happens repeatedly you will be called for interview.

As far as taking your child on holiday outside of school holidays why not look at it like this. Supposing Teachers wanted to take advantage of the cheaper flights/ holidays how would you feel if you took your kid to school only to be turned away as your kid's teacher was on holiday?

As far as INSET days are concerned, who of us would go into work to attend training courses during our holidays?

if i got 38 weeks a year, i'd give a couple of days up

Parents should be allowed to take their children out of school whenever they like in term time.

Especially if it gives my kids an advantage over them when they return from their cheap hols.

If they got 38 weeks holidays a year I'm sure they would too.

Seems pointless to refuse holidays before the end of terms when all they do is dick about anyway for the last week or two before they break up. And that's just the teachers.

If holiday firms and airlines didn't hike up their fares so much in school holiday time then it wouldn't be such an issue.

its a funny one this, my dad used to be a deputy head so the parents would come to him asking if they could take their kids away on holiday during term time. He'd say to them it's a hard decision as your denying them an education but alot of parents would come back saying that the school was being prejudice as the kid came from a poor family and they couldn't afford to swan off whenever they liked during the school holidays because of the price hike. Due to this they told my dad he was denying the kid his right of a family holiday that year...My Dad usually backed down, his viewpoint being the kid would remember his week in greece for the rest of his life but prob wouldn't remember what happened in tommorrows geography lesson next week. I think his other reason was that they'd do it anyway so he might as well keep them onside in case the kid messed up and he needed the parents to back him up.. I suppose the big problem is that some parents take the piss and ruin it for everyone else who just want to take their kids away..

I'm pretty sure the Labour Party mentioned this in the previous General Election. Another of those promises which miraculously get forgotten once they get in.

I know for a fact that the holiday companies don't pass on any of the extra income to the hotelliers.

Its the last week of term. In fact, I believe they are only in Mon-Thu that week anyway.

They normally play games, dick about and do sod all.

Parents have offered to take them away.

Its a timeshare week - so to actually transfer the week to school hols is about ?150. And then the flight prices shoot up massively.

Booking it now, asking the heads later.

When I was a kid our family hols were never during term time and were always in the UK. Devon, Isle of Wight, Lakes, that sort of caper. That would solve your problem of flight prices rocketing. And you might even have a much nicer time and avoid the hideous unpleasantness of taking kids on aeroplanes and other traumas

Bring back wakes weeks

When we had Bowton holidays, we had decent summer hols at decent prices

So the bureaucrats who insist on having everything the same should, as ever, be shot

I am sure that they actually do teacher training and dont go Paint Balling or Bowling.
