I really hope this is true mate, he looks and sounds a talent, our left side will be vastly improved from last season, Petrov is looking sensational in pre season so far, I have never rated Robinson, I understand he puts in a shift, but I like attacking wingbacks, as long as we have cover for when he overlaps etc.

 

If we can't get a striker, we might go 4-5-1, with 2 sitters, another along Muamba, to allow our wingbacks to get forward. Our defence wasn't good last season so it'll be interesting to see what Coyle does with the side.

Maybe it?s just me but the first priority for a full back is to be able to defend IF they can attack great but first and foremost is to defend, which for a while now we've not had anyone that can do that (left or right side)

well hes not exactly going to come out and say we've gone for alonso in because we have shit at the left back position.

you can not teach somebody the skills of say ronaldo or messi or even beckham. well you can, but they need some kind of natural ability also.

Then lets review your coaching point: having been around youngsters coached regularly and knowing coaches at Academies; I and they agree that teaching folk to defend is extremely difficult - particularly for today's games - defending has always been described as an art and it's becoming more of one.

 

Yes if you have stronger physical attributes it makes it easier due to the physical nature of the role, but attacking can also be learnt - the professional leagues are littered with strikers that started life as centre halves (and the other way around for a balanced view)

 

You make an excellent example in undermining your main point with David Beckham; it's widely acknowledged that his "ability" is a result of practice, practice and more practice
