When you look at it in a black and white way then it does seem ludicrous but what needs mentioning on that point is clubs like York and Grimsby don't get the Advertisement, sponsorship and tv money that a premier league club gets. In reality the fact is a club like York or Grimsby needs to use that gate receipt to pay players or they wouldn't have a football club where as a premier league club could play to an empty stadium and still pay its players more a week than the average man earns in a year, I think there is a lot more scope to lower the prices than clubs like people to think.

Say bolton got relegated charging folk ?200 a ST using the sky monies to subsidise this, how happy would you be when the ticket prices shoot back up?

You speak to most football fans about the fact there's premier league season tickets available for less than 300 notes and 50 quid for kids and they think it's a belting deal.

Yes blackburn are cheaper but as i've found out before not many other football clubs near by are.

i'd have bought 5k leaflets ad dropped em in the supermarkets around town

riga could deliver 'em

these days, such advertising methods are compartively pretty useless and expensive

an email to everyone on the database and a big ad on the official site's landing page would've more than sufficed

not sure if they did either

noticed the offer on an ad next to the turnstiles

good offer but there is a ready made excuse - 2 of the games are on tv

i know they did the first one.

I never let the landing page load so i don't know about the 2nd bit.

as we know clubs are very much a business these days.

you could argue that many are very badly run businesses.

the problem is that hardly any club made a proft last year, or the year before, or the year before.

tickets are still a very valid form of revenue.

Not being funny, but how do you think you know that? They've got to answer to the man who they owe a lot of money to and I've been very surprised if they could show him a financial package with lower prices that'd help pay off that debt faster or at the same speed.

Correct, there is nothing funny about that post although I can't see why you would tell us it wasn't meant to be funny.

It's a turn of phrase. I presume English isn't your first language or you've just passed the Pedant Society's entrance exam.

The latter.

Gartside said a couple of weeks ago that the way to increase crowds would be to drop prices or get a better team.He hasn't dropped prices so i guess the intention is to improve on the league postion

Already done as mentioned elsewhere, with Sunday's & the next 2 games for, was it 65 quid. They still don't come. Gartside's wasting his breath making an effort on Boltoners.

My understanding of the whole dodgy coverage in the pubs is that Sky don't give a fuck if a pub is showing 3pm KO on a saturday as it means nothing to them, they will only try and come down on pubs who show all games on the dodgy and do not have any sky package. The pub I go to pays for Sky and ESPN then has the dodgy for the other games - Sky / ESPN are not going to come down on him because he pays them so much bloody money month on month.

With regards to the ?55 offer, the first I saw of it was on the poster outside the ground but again I was not looking for it either.

but if a pub can get the 3pm games, (in english) from foreign satellite then chances are they aint gonna wanna pay for sky for the other games.

this season costs about ?200 for a tring card which is a legitamate way of watching EVERY premier league game. (obviously whether that is legal for public showings is questionable)

local landlord once told me that sky was about ?700 per month.

wen i worked in a pub just over 4 years ago the package for sky sports 1&2 was over ?5k a year for all the additional crap sky sports 3 and extra and setanta i think it was at the time it was over ?7k and the card which showed the foreign channels was ?2k but you wouldnt find out what games were on until 2 days before

I don't want to have a go at the club, but I'm a student at Lancaster University, there is a direct train from Lancaster to Middlebrook, but the club just prices us out of tickets. Theres a few of us that try to go whenever we can afford it, but the club does nothing to help us.

I know people get annoyed at students complaining we can't afford anything, but other clubs such as Wigan offer deals on tickets and travel through our university travel organisation which work out at reasonable affordable prices for students.

Lie about your age and get a ?49 ticket. Simples!

Going back a couple of years ago, my old local screened matches at 3pm, albeit with Italian commentary.

He got it through the Italian branch of Sky. Didn't have any subscription to the UK Sky.

Last I heard was he is still doing it.

Next home game......United. The club won't need to advertise that one. The fact is many folk just can't be arsed going and make excuse after excuse why they don't go. They then come on forums like this moaning about how badly we have played or the lack of good signings.

That though wasn't the point I was trying to make.

What I meant was that BWFC are offering premiership football for a fraction more than Grimsby are offering non league football.

To a Bolton fan, the fact that the club are offering such a good comparitavely good deal should be commended and I don't see what more they can do.

Alternatively, how many places can you watch a Grimsby game and how many places can you watch a Bolton game?

the club have done everything they can to get people back.

the list of excuses not to go is just boring now.

Alternatively, how many places can you watch a Grimsby game and how many places can you watch a Bolton game?

But is that really the problem? Are these pubs packed to the rafters with the masses who wouldn't attend a match till Megson went but couldn't wait to return?

Or is it a case that some fans can't be arsed but rather blame it on other reasons rather than the fact that they can't be arsed?

The comparison with Grimsby was not to do with where you can watch the games, but more to do with how lucky it is to be seeing premiership football for a comparative price to non league football.

so there are no pubs in Bolton that get full for Wanderers games?

the club have done everything they can to get people back.

Spot on. If they cant be arsed going now they never will.

Did anyone see Brum's home crowd agains Rochdale in the week ????

6k !

there should be more done to stop the pubs showing games ilegally.its far to easy for 'fans' to take the easy option to stay in the pub and watch the game there.

as ani said, the club couldnt do anymore,free/dirt cheap busses from bolton, cheap deals on various games and offers on cup games.not many clubs go to such measures.

dont think alot of the stay aways actually realise they have got a fully established premiership team, litterd with international stars, complete with an all purpose stadium with every facility you could ask for right on their doorstep.

anyone comming out with the bullshit that,it just isnt what it used be,blah fucking blah...go and support a team that just is 'what it used to be'.as in shite.

them that stopped away because of megson are just the same type of folk that stopped away becasue of phil neale and the rest..and to be honest id rather that kind of supporter stay away from our club.

and for the people that cant be arsed because its too far from bolton etc...dont even get me started.

Edited by gonzo

I think if, by increasing fines for pubs showing live games, that they stopped showing them, people would still find a reason not to bother going.

Once you stop going you rarely go back no matter the excuse running out.
