Black Peas

I've just indulged in them for the first time and they were bloody marvellous. 4 seasons - 50p for a large pot with vinegar. I'm pretty confident that's one of my 5 a day as well!

I know, it's a disgrace. The sight of them used to put me off when I was a kid and I never got round to trying them before today. Huge error. Need more!

Remember having them when the Fair came to Bolton. On Moor Lanr Bus Station - in a tent, in a big white cup.

i went to a lower league midweek game a few years back, think it was rochdale & they where selling them at the ground, was the best part of the night!

Remember them on Tyldesley Wakes, same big white tent with a coke fire brazier, a massive pan of water full of pot cups, but the best black peas I've ever tasted.

Last time i had them was outside navada

Aye, you always burnt your mouth on t'peys, and cut your tongue on them really thin white placky teaspoons. And then you went back for some more.

You can still get them from Bolton market,or alternatively from some pet food shops, under the guise of 'pigeon peas'.

Treacle toffee = win, toffee apple = win, until you've finished the red toffee, then you throw away apple.

Can't get them here, bastards don't know what's good for them. This thread has brought back some great memories to this cynical old man.

As Carp bait / pet food, these aren't food grade products so I would be wary of getting any. Should be stocked in supermarkets at the moment i should think.
