Nat Lofthouse - A Tribute

An hour long programme where Dickie Davies interviews Nat.

Sorry of posted elsewhere

I'm a Blackburn Rovers' fan [a link was posted on our Message Board] who was born and brought up in Blackpool just after the war so I was the only one in my class at school to be rooting for the Wanderers at Wembley in 1953!

Nat's passing marks the end of an era to people of my generation; there's probably only Sir Tom Finney left of that breed of loyal, honest, hard-working [proper!] footballers.

May Nat rest in peace. My condolences to his family.

Yeah I thought the same. Only Tom Finney left.

Perhaps Bert Trautmann if you could include a Geeerman?

Played a game with a broken neck. Probably struck by a Nat header.

just read this on the club tribute site

My Dad worked with Nat at Mosley Common pit and sustained an injury which required an amputation in later life. He was very low spirited and I wanted to give him a boost. I was working abroad and had the idea to write to his old buddy, whom he had not seen up close for nearly fifty years, and ask if he would send him a card to Bolton Hospital to cheer him up.

He did better that that. He visted my dad twice in hospital, bringing gifts and good cheer and giving him extra energy to aid his recovery.

Dad's spirits were lifted to a new height, and his street cred in the hospital was in orbit! Nat even took the trouble to write back reporting on his condition and I shall be eternally greatful for his kindness.

A true gentleman, sportsman and Boltonian. Rest in peace Nat, a lion of a man. - Ian Whalley

i can't read many more of these

Just watched it on Sky+. I don't think I've ever heard a more humble man give an interview ever.

Reading the tribute from Ian Seddon, reminded me of that match against Sheffield United in 1971. Anyone of a certain age will also remember that match as the day that Nat 'gave youth a chance' Its something that he was never really given credit for over the years but that performance and the team he put out that day, was a

pointer to the future. Although we went down that year, the foundation had been laid for the progress we made in the following years.

If you look at the team, Boswell,Ritson,Hulme,P.Jones,McAllister,Redfern,Waldron,Seddon,Phillips,Fletcher,G.Jones.. only 3 were over the age of 20.

Nat Lofthouse - A Tribute

Gutted i missed this :(

was a good bit about him on the FA Cup highlights last night too

I have to confess that, having been born and raised in Bolton and my subsequent love of Bolton Wanderers, I always knew about Nat Lofthouse but didn't realise that it wasn't just a local thing. I didn't know he was so highly thought of throughout the country.

Reading some of the comments on other teams' message boards really is a "something-in-my-eye" moment. the esteem to which he is held is the highest.

Having just watched the Dickie Davies interview on Sky+, often with slightly blurred vision, I realise that we had a hero, not just for OUR team's supporters but for every supporter in the country.

Ye I saw that too! Will be an emotional send off on Monday.

I watched it this morn, the way he went on about the Reebok and how it was the best ground in Europe :D Just proved how much he loved his beloved

Bolton Wanderers :hi: Top guy and a great footballer.

RIP big guy

I'm sure someone on here will have it on Sky+ and be able to let you have a back-up copy.

I have it on sky+

However

I have no idea how to do anything with it so as to copy it for folk as I'm "technically challenged"

If someone tells me how and I'm capable, I'd be happy to help

You need a DVD recorder and press COPY on the list of options.

TV Guide>Green Button>Red Button

This tells you you are about to copy all programmes marked COPY and they then play one after the other whilst recording on the VCR/DVD recorder.

I think!

aye interesting one because even though they are of the same era/mould I wouldn't couldn't give a shit about the likes of Tom Finney, Stanley Matthews and that old gold shit Billy Wright and their passing would barely register fer me

I think I'd maybe note their passing but probably not go as far as posting condolencies on another club's message boards. I was beginning to think it was just me.

Just seen this - thought I was needing glasses, vision got all weird and blurry.

How proud was he of BWFC !

Aside from being a all time great,he was just like all of us - a fan of the club.

Top man,Mr.Bolton.

Don't think they build 'em like that anymore.

A few might remember chim from a few years back - one of the more sensible WHU fans who had made a few visits here iirc.

Your kind words are much appreciated :good:

Missed it last night. Does anyone know if it's due another showing?
