Still, all adrenaline pumping action only for heartbreak to strike.
February 5, 201115 yr Went to the two away matches. Fantastic followings both nights - shows how much more cup matches meant then. Typical BWFC though - a glorious defeat in the end. Pretty sure Phil Neal played in the 4th game as we were so short of numbers.
February 5, 201115 yr Why dont we sing "come on you whites" any more? Why is there never a roar at kick off any more? Very strange times we are in, as a lad I was drawn to watching Bolton by the support I heard in the Lever end, the noise was truly unbelievable and the fanaticism in there although small on numbers was inspirational, the love the fans shown for the club was probably the main reason I became a white, despite coming from a Salford family. Bolton support today seems so pale and passionless now, I have no idea if we can ever get back to the way it was. Edited February 5, 201115 yr by Mounts Kipper
February 5, 201115 yr Went to swindon for coka-cola cup semi. Been promised a couple of tickets so didn't bother going to ticket office. They ended up selling out and I hadn't got mine. Eventually swindon sent another batch of 200 and I got two of those. Travelled down on supporter's coach. When we got there, though, everyone got off and started walking the wrong way. . . Well, I thought it was the wrong way! It turned out the extras were in the home stand. Not, as i'd first hoped, in a block of 200 but scattered all over; twos and threes all over the place. It pretty much resulted in some rather hairy situations, folk offering me outside when they found out we were bolton. Wife was 8 months pregnant so I was under orders from her not to get involved. Happy days.

In effect, every football fan served an apprenticeship. We turned up at the game, often without parents for the first time, and stood in the singing section; where ever it was at the time. For me it started in the Lever End, then the Embankment for the early and late ends of the season (Sunny bits!) then Burnden Terrace and finally Manny Road North. At that time all parts of the ground joined in. Anyway, back to the apprenticeship theory: I believe I stood in places where I was able to learn the words to various chants. Today we are 12/13 years into a new stadium where a proper singing section was never established. OK, they do their bit in the crazy corner but they're mostly yoof who didn't learn any of the old songs. We're therefore stuck with Owen Coyle's Super White Army, as we had previously had Colin Todd's, Big Sam's and Gary Megson's (Once!). My lad has now gone to sit with his mates in the Lofthouse Lower. He asked me to teach him, "That song about a woman with a wheelbarrow!" My guess is that not enough people around him know it well enough to make it a viable chant until we get to the Owen Coyle's super white army bit. Who's that coming up the hill boys? We don't carry 'ammers. We don't carry lead! There wasn't a better and more intimidating feeling than when all sides and ends of the ground joined together with "Oh when the whites go marching in." With a knock kneed chicken and a bow legged hen. The Bolton Fusilier. Zigger zagger zigger er, maybe not.

February 5, 201115 yr Quality video that SJM. What an atmosphere. Still remember that 3rd going in and all the players legging it after your namesake and they were heading straight towards me. The passion on their faces and all around the terrace was inspiring. Back to songs like, "Come on you Whites" when would the pricks with the drums come in? One of them is doing random bangs now when the opposition players are about to kick the ball.
February 7, 201115 yr aye - drove up for it in the worst weather I've ever driven in, only to hear it was off just as I was passing the M62 Halifax junction. I got a train up from Southampton for that game only to be told it had been postponed when I got off at Piccadilly. Came back up for the replay the following week, thank fuck. Mixu's screamer is one of my favourite Bolton goals of all time.
