if you were divorced,

would you give your kids some money to buy the ex wife a birthday present?

No, sod it.

If she couldn't be bothered to ensure to kids have a least a little money to make a gesture, then I wouldn't.

I've seen fairly close to hand the bastards at the CSA, rob fathers as it is anyway.

In a slightly different vein, but this may apply.

Husband, wife & kids.

Husband & wife hardly on speaking terms.

Wife gives kids money for father's day presents.

Father opens presents and throws them straight in the bin, in front of the kids, because wife has paid for them.

Your thoughts on this scenario please. (and yes - it has happened. NOT ME I HASTEN TO ADD!)

You should never take things out on your kids when your marriage is failing or gone all together. It's not their fault and I feel sorry for the poor kids who watched their dad throw presents in the bin that they had taken the time to buy, granted not with their money, but it's the though that counts.

Your children are your prize possesions and should always remain so.

Sorry HW, I think you could have phrased that an awful lot better.

Your children are NOT possessions. A watch is a possession, a car is a possession.

Your children are human beings that you have care of until they're able to look after themselves, and you also have a lifetime connection to them, whether you want to maintain that connection or not.

And the father who threw the presents away was an idiot who didn't think through fully the possible consequences of his actions. 'Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.'
