Regret what?We were never in a strong position for geting a decent i.e. ?10 million fee for him anyway. Last year of his contract he would have to be a panic buy for the North London two to get that. Once City & Liverpool didn't bite there was never going to be an auction. Perhaps he isn't as good as we like to think? Coyle desperately wanted the ?12 million or so to get his 'Plan A' targets instead of what he has had to go with but it just hasn't happened. Not clubs fault and Cahill is not signing an extension, no way.

Didnt this sort of situation happen with Anelka anyway? Signed a new contract after the summer transfer window closed with a clause allowing him to go to a big club. Chelsea came in in January and off he went. Could be wrong though?
