Johnny Foreigner Owners Want To Scrap Relegation From Prem

LMA chief reckons it could be a goer if enough foreigners are in control of top flight Clubs.

This would be a load of bollocks and would effectively leave 8 - 10 teams in the Premier League with a non-existence of lower table mediocrity. Not to mention the uproar from lower league Clubs.

And Birmingham will swear they're a bigger club than them.

Safe to say, we wouldn't be.

We're not seen as 'glamorous' enough.

The major American sports have a self-balancing system whereby the bottom team has the first choice of draft selections from the pool of talent emerging from the colleges, and the top team has the last choice. That's why no team ever dominates for a generation.

Frustrated American owners see the advantage that here they can buy a vastly enhanced (but not certain) chance of success, and the scope for world-wide income streams.

It's already pretty frustrating to know at the start of the season that you are competing for, at best, fifth place. Whereas in the 'Championship' at least 75% of teams think they can win the title at the outset.

The danger of a franchise system with no relegation is that a team with limited income potential can be permanently in the bottom five. Not very inspiring. At least if 2 divisions are locked off there is a future, but that is simply lacking in fairness. Or doesn't that matter if we're on the right side of the divide?

The franchise system someone mentions is also how "they'll" get Rangers and Celtic in

Thanks. I forgot about that daft idea.

Frank is right, I meant the clubs seen as more glamorous than us.

(We know we're the best club in the world

I'm not sure why Sheffield United are seen as 'glamorous', they haven't won a major trophy since 1925.

Those 'all-time' lists aren't based on our perception of whether we should be in the top flight alongside more 'glamorous' clubs, they're based on facts. Number of seasons in the old top flight. Number of seasons in the Premier League. Points won in the top flight. Trophies won. We would be in the top twenty in every category. We wouldn't even be far off if it was just down to attendances.

The main danger of a franchise system is that a club like Bolton might be re-located to Belfast or somewhere.

all irrelevant to the current day

lets do league titles won, shall we

History is never 'irrelevant'. Presumably that's why people consider the likes of Sheffield United, Wednesday and Forest, to be 'glamorous', even though they're far from that at the moment. If it's based on the 'current day', we'd be in there anyway.

I wouldn't have thunk anyone would've deemed those three clubs to be glamorous for quite some time.

Or worse, Milton Keynes!

Wasn't Wimbledon going to Dublin at one point?

if they were going to do it, surely it should be done it on premier league 'wins' seems the fairest way.

See Gartside on Twitter must have been taking some abuse for bringing the 2 tier debate up a few months ago tweeted recently saying he doesnt and never has advocated it.

As mentioned above, I really can see this being used as a vehicle to get the two Glasgow teams involved....which would just be shite

She's lucky he didn't call her a bell!

Has anyone actually asked the fans what they want? Not sure whether anyone else has noticed the increase in empty seats at Champions League matches. I can't help but wonder whether fans of the bigger clubs would tolerate going into a European league. Yes it's fun being in Europe for a few seasons but would you really want to have to travel abroad for most away matches and have relatively few away fans coming to your home matches? Most people I know who support bigger clubs would much rather keep things as they are. Not that the new owners seem to give a shit about their fans. Just ask supporters of US franchises that get picked up and moved elsewhere at the drop of a hat.

I'd love a 10 min phone chat with Kelly

It'd be plenty of time for me

Did she really say "just over the phone like..."?

Sadly that's of little concern to them. The income from TV money far outweighs the money generated by people coming through the turnstiles.

Say what you see.:pardon:

By the way, that wanker at Wigan, Whelan, has said he'll resign his team from the Prem if this goes ahead.

that's the best reason for it to happen I've heard yet.

Get it done.

Strangely, he's probably hoping it happens too so he can say "Relegated? No, we resigned."
