Corporate day at Lanky

at my school it was more of a focus of American history, but i love reading about our history so with most history subjects I've learned about them through independent research. Insomnia came in handy a few years ago.

 

See, that gets me angry, really angry.

We did WW2 but more about the war its self along with the blitz/home guard and the concentration camps than the build up to the war and the reasons behind it.

 

Dunno if they went into more detail at GCSE level as i did geography.

yeah pissed me off as well, my family originates from the Caribbean and i asked a history teacher if he could recommend me any books on the hostory of the slave trade and black history and he said no i only teach history that is relevant to this country, next term we studied JFK and viet fuckin nam. so i have pretty much taught myself about WW1 WW2 battle of hastings, the tudor era the industrial revolution as well as my families own history. bollocks to school

seems to go in cycles, my lad, now 16 is doing WW2, causes an effects on more recent/present trouble, but yet funnily, has never done anything about WW1, whereas I would argue you can't do the cause of WW2 without knowing WW1, or at least the end of it, so not sure how they manage that.

i bet if you went to secondary school in the last 10 years you wouldn't of studied WWI which is ridiculous. More likely the bay of pigs and the Cuban missile crisis and Vietnam and probably since i left 8 years ago the gulf wars which has a little more relevance to our country at least.

Our 9 year old is going into a lot of detail about both world wars as they've been studying them in class, been to the war museum, library etc... He's been asking my mum and dad what it was like during wartime etc...

 

He does have an unhealthy interest in wars and guns and the video games, reckons he's going in the army when he's old enough. Nowt wrong with that, I tried to convince him to go in the navy so he could travel to far distant countries, meet various interesting races then kill them all with bigger guns but they don't have battleships anymore unfortunately.....

History stopped in year 8, it was an option for 9,10 and 11, but P.E and drama were my choices, remember doing the tudors, londons burning and Egyptians

I'm afraid NB that the kids and education system in general seem to think all our offspring will grow up to be premier league footballers or actors. Or marry one.

Course it is what? you asked a question, I answered it, for me I'd rather have done History than the likes of Foreign Language, If I want to learn a different Language, I'll learn it in my own time, I don't believe in god and have no interest in made up things about religion, at least with history it was made fun with like school outings, actually we did go to churches and mosques (not really fun, but you could mess about a bit) etc, but nothing in France.

 

I had to drop P.E because as I've mentioned before I had a dodgy knee, I choose Geography and spent most of it going down places like Halliwell Road, Smithills Dean Road and looking in papers for Property, had to use an A-Z, and do lads of charts, etc, was soo boring, coursework all time, I'd rather go on Prems than stay at home doing more work.

listen to this, not getting into catholic discussion, but, youngest kids go to catholic primary school, on devwali or eid or one of them celebrations, 8yr old came home with a red dot on his head as they had a visit explaining what it was about and celebrated it with these visitors, nowt wrong with that really, tolerant to all and help understand differences i suppose, but, on ash wednesday, they didnt come home with ash on their foreheads as they "didn't do it" this year!
