Unless you're a budding Lewis Hamilton, tyres are tyres.

bollocks, budget tyres are dodgy, I recommend you splash the cash on tyres esp if you are carrying kids in the car, had near misses with budget shite yet with good tyres been able to easily avoid situations

I'll see your bollocks and raise you some facts and figures.

And.

Now, this clearly shows premium tyres perform better but the cheapest are 30 quid and the difference is 4m in the dry at 70mph and 20m in the pissing down rain at 70mph.

If anyones doing 70mph in the pissing down rain then you are a dickhead and the price of your tyres is the least of your problems.

So, like I said above, if you're popping to Morrisons there is no difference what-so-ever between budget and premium. If you're looking to overtake Jenson Button and you only have one lap left then fair enough, you'd be better off spending the 100.00 per tyre extra.

a fuckin meriva weighs fuck all

besides, im going off personal experience

I personally would not buy neither premium or budget tyres, i find branded non premiums are the best option, Hankooks are probably best for the money

MaXxis are great.

Get my new car week Tuesday.

You clearly don't commute on a motorway.

I'll stick with my Continentals, ta.

Joking aside, back to my new "noise" that I can hear when I'm driving. Due to have a replacement tyre fitted? Or a remap done at weekend? Coincidental? I don't want to leave it if its the start of something bigger than can be nipped in the bud - but where to turn to? Licence to print money garages.

Had a puncture "fixed" at weekend for a tenner. Nail in the tyre - quite obvious. Removed, filled in. Job done. Tyre then went flat within the hour. Took it back. Turns out there was wall damage on the inside (ie. facing into the car). So tyre no good and need a replacement. I could argue that he should have spotted that (it was obvious to the eye) first time around and could have saved me a tenner and a waste of time with a foot pump and a visit to the garage to pump it up (50p FFS!).

Cars - I hate them!

That noise- bit like a low hum that gets lower in pitch as you slow down?

That 'new' tyre- is the tread on an angle as opposed to perpendicular or running around the tyre?

Happened to us, wondered what it was, service garage could find nowt. Then a neighbour pointed out that that such tyres can cause this noise, and as it only started after having them fitted, it made sense- though god knows why

my tyres rumble especially when I hit 100mph

I usually get my friendly local breakers yard to fit new boots when needed but I'm not into cheng shin bald flat crossplies. Last time an Insignia donated it's pair of almost new bridgestones off the front, as there was bugger all left of the rear end! ?45 a corner fitted. Bargain!

Still had the paintmarks and pimples on 'em, and no, they weren't flatspotted. Enjoyed them for the last 12 months which is bloody good going for me (and the mrs with her newly found hell driver antics). Still, I suppose I drive a tad more sensibilerer these days, used to insist on yokos for my old alfa but would only usually get a few weeks use out of them but would stick like the proverbial.....

Just be sensible when buying part worn tyres like anything else.

I'd stick my neck out and say these near misses weren't caused by cheap tyres.

That's enough of a differance to make the extra cost worthwhile IMO.

we seem to be forgetting something here

almost everybody who buys a second hand car gets part worn tyres

A very well made point. Presumably all the naysayers immediately remove all four tyres and replace with brand new premium tyres?

don't buy a second hand car then.

indeed, and even if you buy a brand new car, once you've been to tesco in it, they're part worn too.

don't buy a second hand car then.

second hand or a noddy car

now, let me see
