May 11, 201214 yr Sounds like something you might get 4 of for ?1 in Iceland Savoury pies without meat in, I've never heard of anything so ridiculous! A north west lad who doesn't know what a butter pie is and has never eaten one, I've never heard of anything so ridiculous!
May 11, 201214 yr The Pound Bakery is Hampsons/Sayers trading under another name - same produce...which begs the question, if crap pies and pasties are your thing and you're in Town, why would you go to Hampsons/Sayers? There used to be a good one near Swan Lane Mill that hasn't had a mention yet. It was opposite the Launderette, just after the 'spanish factory' section of the Mill.

Yeah but, no but, just because they're owned by the same company doesn't mean exactly the same produce comes trundling down the production line but ends up in different shops. If you've had a pasty from Hampsons and a pasty from the Pound Bakery you'll realise this. The two are incomparable. I had one once from the Pound Bakery just because it had only just opened and curiousity got the better of me. It was fucking horrible. The local scrotes/scroungers who spend all day hanging around town seem to lap up their produce though.
May 11, 201214 yr I went through this with No Balls, regarding Marks & Spencer's stuff a few month back, and got short shrift. I'm therefore aware I'm on a losing argument here, if you think the lines are halted and everything gets chopped and changed around for more 'upmarket' clients, then keep believing that. If you get bacon barms from different Hampsons/Sayers they vary in quality, from edible (just) to more suited for making into a dubplate. Same goes for their pasties - but honestly, the stuff at Pound Bakery is off the same lines as Hampsons/Sayers. They don't make a big song and dance about it because it looks bad - selling the same stuff nearly half price. As you said - the Pound Bakery is always rammed with the underclasses, so they make up for what they lose on discounting with the volume they sell. If they could do the same volume at all the other stores, as they do at the one near Burtons in town, all the Hampsons/Sayers would become Pound Bakeries.
May 11, 201214 yr I wonder if the Pound Bakery has a policy similar to the soylent green film. Skutters eating skutters.

You got short shrift because it's bollocks. My mother once bought a ready meal from Asda, what the fuck she was thinking, I don't know, but I can assure you, it wasn't the same as an M&S ready meal. The chicken in it was grey. Never ever again.

I don't think this at all. I just think that maybe there is more than one production line. meaning no need for any chopping and changing. Is that really all that unlikely?
May 11, 201214 yr Galloways pies are the bollocks surely none of your efforts beat anything made in the pie capital of the world? The little meat pies galloways sell called patties are exceptional. Edited May 11, 201214 yr by Mounts Kipper
May 11, 201214 yr So you know these freezer shops, we've all seen them, who say "M&S seconds", are they really also Aldi seconds? I'm just not having it, sorry. Hanbury's Coquille St. Jaques is the same as Waitrose's? Aye alreet.
May 11, 201214 yr My mother once bought a ready meal from Asda, what the fuck she was thinking, Is that when she went scutting around the "whoops" section? Anyway, hopefully that learned her, and she now just chooses Waitrose or M&S ready meals

May 11, 201214 yr NB, never mind all this tittle tattle what's happened to your recipes thread? I had to eat out at a restaurant last night!
May 11, 201214 yr NB, never mind all this tittle tattle what's happened to your recipes thread? I had to eat out at a restaurant last night! I'm cooking for my stepfather tonight, he's home alone this weekend poor thing, so will report back laterer on what I've conjured up, if that's ok with you x
May 11, 201214 yr I wonder if the Pound Bakery has a policy similar to the soylent green film. Skutters eating skutters. I wondered why there was a sovereign ring baked into a 'mince' pie I bought from Pound Bakery last Christmas. I took it back and they looked puzzled for a minute before breaking into a cautious round of applause and telling me I was that months winner (Pound bakery Tat Tombola - in association with Elizabeth Duke). You got short shrift because it's bollocks. My mother once bought a ready meal from Asda, what the fuck she was thinking, I don't know, but I can assure you, it wasn't the same as an M&S ready meal. The chicken in it was grey. Never ever again. I distinctly said in the area of bakery related produce only - then you start weighing in with wines and chicken meals aargh! I can't speak for vintners or makers of crapula plastica pingers ?. I concede they aren't exactly the same, but, they're closer in their components than the mind will allow you to think. One year all the 'Extra Special' mince pies for a certain upmarket chain of stores probably tasted a bit different. This is because someone had swiped all the Bona-fide Courvouisier or Martell (or both) that was meant to go into the mix - big, huge catering buttes of the stuff, they'd replaced it with brandy essence and had a f*cking corking Christmas and New Year (and the sack, when it came to light shortly after). Anyway, they (the chain, let's call them S+M) now insist on the brandy/cognac being added to the mix under the supervision of one of their lot... As for holding Aldi up as being the nadir of supermarkets, some of the stuff they sell is alright, their fruit and veg is good - as is their selection of cooked meats, the Pastrami is miles better than Sainsburys. January 30, 201511 yr Author Just been to Dawsons, only took 2 years to get round to it. Very stodgy with a runny inside. More like a pastie than a pie. Bit peppery. 6/10.
