Culinary Capital Of The North

Couple more new restaurants opened recently. A curry house and a Thai.

Tried the Thai last night and it was fooking immense.

I had a salad fr starter which looked innocent enough but had enough chillies in it to restart a collapsed star, it was outrageous.

Loved it, everyone should give the place a whirl.

Bring your passports if you're from down in the place that looks like the part of town in Total Recall where all the freaks lived. You know who you are.

La Tasca has shut up shop, the Bolton branch on Bradshawgate has anyway - not sure of the rest of the chain. The small, but very good, indian restaurant, next to the old cinema on Bradshawgate always seems empty too, folk probably preferring to trough through mountains of shite down the road at The Leena.

Does anyone venture into town to dine anymore? Went for my 'dinner' in Harveys last week, used to be packed at lunchtime - there were around five groups of people, with only two groups eating.

Soon Bolton Town Centre will consist solely of; Money Lenders, Pound shops, Charity shops, nail bars, computer game/mobile phone hawkers and pubs full of deadlegs - spilling out onto the street smoking (and wearing stonewashed denim and black shoes). All that's required now is to kill off the Market, answers on a postcard to the usual address.

There's a couple of tapas restaurants in HTown. As Spider says, the culinary cpital of the North :D

I'm not inclined to 'tapas' restaurants - which is an oxymoron in itself, as most pretentious tw*ts (me included :)) know. La Tasca had most of their dishes made at an central industrial unit, then shipped out to the various restaurants. The folk who worked in the Bolton branch were all originally Portuguese or from Angola/Mozambique - which further made its claim to be 'Spanish' a sham. They did have the cracking Cruzcampo on draught, but you were discouraged from going in there and standing drinking at the bar - which was ironic really.

Horwich does always smell nice when strolling through, and the various establishments are firing up their ranges. Hmm, perhaps Bolton should move it's centre to Horwich? Then no-one could moan about the Reebok being miles away anymore.

Fuck off! We're happy being backward folk, we don't need all your funny coloured people, spitting in the street, wearing funny clothes and setting up 3rd world communities, ta very muchly.

You can all visit, but last bus is 10.30pm.

The one next to Talib's in town is alright. I've been there a few times now. I'm not sure I'd 'venture out' to go there but seeing as it's approx 30 seconds walk from home it'll do for me. I much prefer the food in there than what La Tasca serve(d) up.

Soon?

And La Tasca died on its arse about 5 years back. Used to do belting food before they began their rollout.

Going on Thursday with the stepfather. He loves the place.

I might see you in there then.

We're going in again for mrs Gonk's birthday

I'd be interested to know whether it is gluten free, or is able to cater for same (Thai and Vietnamese usually is, as long as soy sauce and/or oyster sauce don't find their way into everything).

Malcolm, come along. I'm sure my stepfather would like you

You were angling for an invite, weren't you? :)

Laibaz is the curry place facing The Balmoral. Tried it a few weeks ago it was top stuff. Better than Spice Valley and Cinnamon IMO. Give it a try it's reasonable

Whitey, it may be lovely but describing it as "facing The Balmoral" isn't going to get The Guardian food writer beating a path :D

I'm no candidate, as I have taken the precaution of remaining married, albeit long separated.

Actually it was for future reference....

But as the worst case scenario is having a large bowl of flavoured rice, Iamin.

Just let me know what time and I'll be there!

i understood there was a chaperon.

You will turn up at the restaurant & the chapeon would have been unavoidably delayed, mark my words.

A chance worth taking!!

Whoa whoa whoa.

You can't just stroll in here with your facts, figures and machiney aftershave.

You've to put the hard yards on with this one, you know.

I've grown piles sat in those bushes and lost vision in one eye because of a mis-sold second hand pair of night vision goggles.

Spider, would you like me to bring you a beef tea out as it's a bit parky out there tonight?

A chance worth taking!!

I'd appreciate an arrival time before this site crashes for an unspecified period! tia

Malcolm, it's not a good trait is seem too keen.

Tbh I'm surprised the site has survived the news re OC.

If you find out its GF status it'll do for future reference.

And if you post a time and I find it I will be there.

Otherwise not.

I like La Salsa very lots. Only downside - bit of a faff them bringing a mouthful of each when you order. I think we had three running around after us last time we 'visited' as I kept telling them to 'keep it coming' but in my amazingly fluent cod Español (with the occasional 'ey up' chucked in for good measure. Not really arsed that it's 'rustic'.The best place for a nosebag when I lived in 'Orridge was Casa Bruno when Bruno himself had it. I could never fault the quality and value of that place. And he was as daft as a brush too.The only problem was Tuesday nights. Fuck all open takeaway wise on a Tuesday, it was like their day off or summat. Selfish bastards.

Seconded. My all time favourite restaurant, we almost used to go once a week. I was gutted when he closed it.

Still see him now and again with his wife.
