Just done the Wythenshawe one. Gets you out of the house for 45 mins. 5km. Free to enter. Varying levels. Believe there's one every Saturday on Leverhulme Park.

  • I did Heaton Park this Saturday to avoid the ponds at Leverhulme. Little did I realise that I was actually first finisher!   http://www.parkrun.org.uk/heaton/results/latestresults/

  • The only connection between Parkrun results and me is both are broken down by age and sex.   The nippy NZer is probably Johns Shivas of Port Hills.

Yes there is, just got back from doing it. I think they are a really good thing. Word to the wise - the one in Preston is a fast one.

By the way, how did you get on Smiley? This was my first run for 5 weeks so was pretty chuffed with 20:55 ish.

Dogshit dodging in Breightmet?

I think I'll pass.

There's one at penny flash. I didn't know they held daytime activities there

There are about 150 venues nationwide. All have 9am starts except the Scottish venues, which are at 9.30.

I registered with my local one about a year ago.

Never done it

Can't be arsed getting up that early on a Saturday morning to go for a run

That's some good going for 3.1miles those of working in real money.

What's the other participants like? No point going and horwich harriers being there taking the pi55.

Cheers Eavsey. Best attempt is 19:33. UK record is summat like 13 minutes!!

Massive range of abilities from decent-ish club runners to owd giffers to fat lasses to folk running round holding their kids hands.

Park runs are really good. Get barcode. Turn up. Run. Piss off home and get results later. Well worth having a do, imho.

i've heard nothing but good reports about parkruns

but leverhulme has a fcuk off hill, i've heard

seeing as i do my trots around harwood, its probably a walk in the park, so to speak

Tch, it's just a bump ;0)

Registered but not been. We shoukd have a wanderersways running club

I didn't have my barcode AND had to run with the GF today, so it was around 29 mins (felt like a fast walk, but don't tell her that, she nearly passed out!). She's happy for me to do my own thing next time, so I'd be aiming at 23 mins. Wythy was a mixture of path, road, mud, puddles, bark, grass, etc. no hills so piece of piss really, apart from nearly slipping in the sludge. Think there were a handful of club runners, then a real mixed bag. Couple of very nippy youngsters (mid-late teens).

91 took part.

How many run the Bolton one? And how many times do you have to run up that bastard hill out of the bunk?

never done it, but seen the route

think its only once

flat 5k

whats your time, smiler?

Twice up one and once up another. Only short climbs though.

148 at Bolton today. Normally a few more. I was 8th (therefore a poor field!).

Good effort SF, shame you couldn't find a couple of seconds and beat JS for 7th :)

I have done a couple but 5k is a bit short as Saturday is long run day, a couple off here are doing the Chester half marathon in May.

I've been meaning to do this for a while, I thought it was Sunday for some reason, I'll be there next week.

Might throw in these as I train for the Manchester 10k at the end of May.

Have not done the Leverhulme park one but did the Bolton 10K one last April, I was pretty unfit and its a twice around route that includes a bloody steep climb. That hurt!

  • 2 weeks later...

Anybody else Park running today? Not getting any easier. Or faster, I don't think.

too hungover today, treadmill later this afternoon though. Will try next week.

Daughters registered but not been, need to get her in to it as she's registered for Ironkids this year!

Trying to get myself to a level where I won't embarrass myself by taking her....

Do the one at Temple Newsam (Leeds). Have come 1st in my category twice - helps when you're the only one in the category.

Fair fucks to anyone who got up and ran this morning.
