They move the goalposts in terms of expectations consistently

Nah.

Next year we need to be amongst the runners after 10 games

Otherwise it's toodle pip

With the budgets we have and apparent need to rid our squad of its better players to progress, I can't see why we would expect to be one of the front runners/favourites

Without moving the goalposts, there'd be disagreement over what would be 'acceptable' even then (after 10-12 games). I think there'd be consensus over what was wholly unacceptable.

There's a real danger of members of the pro-Freedman (of which I'm one, one with tested faith) camp, doing what the McCarthy-ites, Big-Sam Back-ers and Coyle-Apologists and latterly Megson-forgivers and Give Little Sam another go-ers coupled with the Get-Whoevers-Just-Been-Potted-In-Now! (McDermott being the latest) lot have been doing this season.

If Freedman is dispensed with prematurely, some will claim we should have toughed it out with him, and this divisiveness that's permeated the support will continue. Any potential new (management) team probably will have the Freedman-Longerers unfairly out gunning for them from the start (even if they do give a fig-leaf/lipservice of "we'll give 'em a chance").

And if that all reads like a load of bollocks - it's because it is.

I can't wait for this season to end as long as we are a championship club come next August. By then DF should have a clean sheet of paper to work with most of the big earners who are shirkers off the books, budget to bring in his players and then no excuses for him it's now or never.

I'm talking playoffs btw.

But then I can see a poor start be accepted by saying we haven't got players on a decent wage now so how are we supposed to challenge

It's all too accepting

I think, subconciously, it's the fact we've nowt to play for so early that is so disheartening, I honestly don't think a relegation dogfight is on the cards...

We've always had something to play for in recent times, promotion/avoiding relegation, chasing Europe, even if (in the Premiership) we were heading for mid-table there was always the prize money for places and the prestige/pride of finishing above local rivals.

How long has it been since a season petered out like this (and with most of us hoping it just peters out)?

Fuck Leeds

I'm still yet to see any tangible progress under DF

We'll be here again in a year and it'll still be Coyle or the players' fault according to those that would twist anything to avoid blaming DF and co

Our star will have fade that bit more and those who saw it coming will be accused of enjoying it

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Saved me the trouble, Jules.

Cross your fingers & toes it does just peter out tamely.

@BBCSport: Leeds United are trying to reinstate Brian McDermott as manager after sacking him yesterday evening - read more from BBC Leeds' @APOPEY

Exactly. We should have been amongst the front runners this season. I'm not sure what people have seen this season that has raised their expectations for next season.

Have they still got Elland Road under siege?

Perhaps it's just a bluff so the chairman can quickly nip out for 16 cans and a few pot noodles?

I'm talking playoffs btw.

Thing is, you don't need to be amongst the front runners after 10 games to make the play offs

He needs to not be struggling at the wrong end and not showing progress to keep his job, you'd have thought, he gets a reprieve this season, and whilst I can see why to An extent, it's frustrating that our expectations are able to change in such a short space of time, when I don't think they should have

Unless our original expectations were too high ?

DF must be uber pressure but changing manager too often is a recipe for disaster, but equally so is constantly backing the wrong horse.

Guess that's subjective

For me, if they'd be managed right that lot could've stayed in the pl

If managed right they could've at least made the play offs last season

And should be doing much better than they are this season

Over time DF will lower them further until we get to the point where we expect nothing and anything better will be seen as doing a good job, because that's what he did at palace

Pretty sure that wasnt the plan, but it's where we are at

The worrying thing is the fact there are little or no signs that things might improve.

That's just it

I'd be all for supporting any Management team if there was

They're making it up as they go along them lot... "he's still in charge" !

Well whatever the outcome, it worked today and they are way above us.

Now Ross to leave and the pack of cards falls to bits. Oh dear

He'll be missed but let's not overstate it.
