I got one of them slow cookers a few months ago. Put it on before I went to work thinking my tea will be ready when I get home. It was the worst pizza i ever had.

Everything tastes the same, just chuck it all in and cook for 6 hours.

There was a recipe thread on here a few months back, loads of good stuff on there. No balls had a chicken and chorizo jobby that works well in a slow cooker - it's proper lush.

Use loads, and I mean loads of fresh (as in a freshly opened or recently freshly opened) Paprika - add a good glug of Heinz Ketchup.

This is a top tip for anyone cooking with Paprika, unless it's a posh tin, if it's been opened for more than a couple of weeks, bin it and use a fresh packet, and use loads.

Another good and cheap 'superfood' - fresh red cabbage, remember people - for good health eat the rainbow, this doesn't mean Smarties or M+Ms.

I only get the slow cooker out at autumn/winter personally but google slow cooker recipes and you should find plenty.

get a big lump of ham, and cover it in spunk (about 2 pints should do it) and let it simmer for 8 hours. You'll love that.

right, but i wouldnt use the slow cooker

all you need is

a couple of chicken breasts

mushrooms if you like em

a large onion

cooking oil

curry powder from bolton market

1 or 2 tins tomatoes

tin of coconut milk

chop and fry the onions

add salt n pepper

add half your mushrooms

add the tomatoes and coconut milk and curry powder to taste (dont be put off using poweder cos of any food snobs - if its good enough for mrs aslam, its good enough for me)

spoonful lazy garlic and lazy chilli if you fancy

chuck the lot in a blender

pour out of blender back into pan

add remaining mushrooms and the raw chicken breasts - chop em first (yes, youre boiling raw chicken (if its good enough for mrs aslam, its good enough for me)

boil/simmer for an hour

you'll probably have loads of spare sauce - freeze it for next time

If you've got sod all ingredients in store then it'll be a dear do to make owt, you need to spend about £20 to £30 on the basics, and if it's stuff that keeps - then buy a big 'un and you'll be set for a while then.

Basics stuff will do: salt, spices, oil, cans of stuff, tomato puree, vinegars, plain flour, dried herbs...

I've got a fucking cupboard full of shit and Tesco keep sending me vouchers for money off red wine vinegar, how much of the shit do they think I use???

Can't make a chilli without red wine vinegar, or you won't after you've used it once...

Dark Chocolate too.

And Black Eye Beans as well as Kidney Beans - they do three tins for a quid at Asda.

I thought you were moving in with your misses??? WTF you need to bother with cooking for???

"Where's my tea?"

After a brief smattering of use, ours is sat in the cupboard with the toastie maker and coffee peculator.

Prefer a traditional pot in th'oven.

just stuck a chill in mine now

Noticed a hairline crack in ours last time it was used. Going to have to be replaced before winter.

Oh and Ryan, get down the meat market for some braising steak, chuck in with onions, mushrooms, stock (or cube and water) put on low in the morning and in the evening thicken the gravy and serve with mash.
