theres a massive irony in CAGE being allowed to express themselves freely seeing as they're bankrolled by the Saudis. In fact, there's a massive irony in any of these folk spouting their vile shit in our society as what they're trying to do is get rid of free speech.

I get that the Saudis bankroll them, as well as most of the mega mosques and the expenses of many of the extreme "clerics". Its in their nature to promote their medieval culture.

 

What I don't get is the likes of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation giving them £300k in Jan 2014, then justifying by stating:

Since I read that The Atlantic article, which now makes me one of Europe's foremost experts on ISIS I've come to the conclusion that the warped ideology of ISIS and the possibility they've eclipsed Al-Qaeda, means the world, or rather, our world, is now a slightly safer place...

 

I'd venture that the chances of a 9/11 or 7/7 style attack has decreased since the advent of ISIS. I realise this will provide no succour to folk in the area ISIS are operating (or intend to), but from a purely selfish point of view, I say, grandly speaking, it's possible we're marginally safer from an attack in this country (or other 'western' nations) now ISIS have established this new, more direct route to 'jihad'.

Seen as I've been caricatured as one of our resident WW handwringers (the truth is a lot more nuanced than that - but I can appreciate that it's human nature to pidgeon hole people) - have a watch of this. It's an interview with Nigel Farage from Fox News America last week. There is very little I disagree with him on within this clip. Particularly the part where he claims that the west's foreign policy in the middle east over the past few decades has made things worse rather than better.

 

I also agree with him on the point that we need to be more confident in our own identity as a country (although I see it more as taking pride in our collective achievements, tolerance and democracy as opposed to the fact that we are 'judeo christian').

 

I also agree with him that what happened in Rotherham was disgusting and should never have been allowed to happen. It was a consequence of a ridiculous (and probably criminal) nervousness on behalf of the authorities about applying the law of the land - without paying regard to race or religion or the perpetrators.

So we change our laws because of the threat, we clamp down free speech because of the threat, we remove tolerance because of threat, we change our justice system because of the threat, we start torturing people because of the threat.

 

We do all this to protect our society and way of life.

 

Do not get me wrong we need to evolve to reflect the world in which we live we need to tighten up on certain things but we do not 'throw the baby out with the bath water'. I am sure asking 'ray guns' where their loyalty lies will solve most issues.

Where did anyone suggest any of that? don't need to change our laws let's have the balls to enforce the ones we have and if that means going into mosques so be it. Free speech is one thing but when the likes of Choudray incite violence to others (i.e. jewish people) that's a different matter altogether. We can't show any tolerance to the likes of ISIS and torturing people doesn't work so not in favour of that.
