I went to Swansea for the night match that season. Hardly any fans there (3,636 says the record), and only a small handfull of wanderers fans. I can't remember seeing anyone I knew or talking to anyone. We lost, were shit and it was a long trek back to London Had been missing football Went to Wimbledon the year before and was with some other folks. Were tanked 4-0.

I was at that, I think the only time we played at Plough Lane. We got off the tube at what must have been the wrong Wimbledon station miles from the ground, found a pub with evil beer, went in the seats & the stand nearly caught fire, & then we got gubbed 4-0. Happy days.

September 22, 201411 yr Complete the picture. Tell me it kicked off.... Ha ha, nope, not much chance at Wimbledon, & sadly, I think i've run out of "interesting" anecdotes about my only trip to Plough Lane. It's always best to leave them wanting more though .
September 22, 201411 yr A season or so before I properly started doing aways on my own. I did go to Bury for a pre-season in the summer of 85 I think. And I remember going to Walsall on the Travel Club in autumn 85. I remember passing the ground on the motorway on the way back from Charlton in May 83 (Ian Moores, heartbreak etc) with my Dad and resolving to go there some day, now we were in the same division. 3 decades. Christ, where did they go?!

September 22, 201411 yr Me, Gubbins and two Rochdale lads went down to Wimbledon for the 4-0 defeat, supped in the Borough market and caught train to Haydens Rd, bad times but was a good laugh in those days.

We was behind the goals on the open terrace, and moved at half time to the stands, and someone lit a fire underneath to keep us warm, not the best of tricks, but it was under control.

My programmes tell me that during seasons 1983 to 1986 I was at Chesterfield (0-3), Crewe (0-0), Exeter City (2-2), Gillingham (3-2), Lincoln City (0-0), Newport County (3-2), Reading (1-3), Wimbledon (0-4), Walsall (0-2). Maybe more games I don't remember. All Division-3 except Crewe (Freight-Rover). Apart from remembering the cold (and humiliation) at Wimbledon, similar to Scarborough 4 years later, and Newport being my 92nd League ground at the time, those bare facts don't dredge up any particular memories.

Remember us being 2 up at Exeter before drawing, Phil Neal complaining about the practise balls at Walsall and a big punch up at Chesterfield.

That was our last game before we went to Wembley, took a big mob on the train and had good drink in Chesterfield, got some nice fish and chips after the game and looked forward to more ale in Sheffield, the train back took a different route and went via Barrow Hill and the police on arriving at Sheffield would not let any Bolton fans off the train saying if any of you cunts step foot on the platform you would be arrested. Nice S Yorks plod as usual.

Just for you Paul and to put some meat on the bone for the shit season that was 1984/85, and the time when events off the pitch were better than on it. The era of tranny vans. First away was at Derby, a 3-2 defeat, plenty of excitement off the pitch when our tranny van with 30 lads in it parked up outside their main pub were their main lads were drinking. Hull at home was a boring 0-0 draw, their crew were in the Burnden Stands and legged after the final whistle except for a huge chap in a deerstalker, game as fuck but took a kicking. Doncaster away, lads in vans as usual, very lively after the game near the racecourse. Burnley away, we went on the early train and got off at Burnley Barracks, rumbles in the centre and we went in the seats scattering their lot. Newport away, we lost 3-2, I was on the pitch pre match in the nets having Newport's forward firing in practice shots at me. Think it was the day the coaches from the travel club broke down. I was on the train so happy. Oldham Milk Cup epic 4-4 draw at Boundary Park Shrewsbury Milk Cup, great following from Bolton that night Notts County Milk Cup.........disaster Hull FA Cup - very lively day indeed from the Five Ways pub right down to the ground, same during the game and afterwards. Millwall home pre Christmas - fun beforehand when they got off the train,they were in the seats doing the Vikings song. Wigan away - vans galore, in their end as usual all the game, then Blackburn v Leeds in the afternoon. Derby home - very naughty afterwards, 40 a side 20 minutes non stop toe-to-toe down Lower Bridgeman St, absolute chaos. Plymouth away, bloody freezing,lost 2-0, wasn't sure if the match would even go ahead. Lincoln away - coach from the Albion, fun and games on the canal before and after. Preston away - pitch invasion from a few Bolton,brawling with the filth in our end, train set on fire on the way home. Mad day. York away, friday night, 3-0 and good following from Bolton. Hull away, tuesday night, coach from the Albion, trouble from the Five Ways onwards. Wigan home - dire, their lot turned up at five to three,pitiful turnout from those wankers. Millwall away, MG Whites' brother took a coach from the Albion that was windowless on the way home thanks to the ever so obliging South Londerers. Bradford home - chaos from the first coachload of them turning up, their victory parade around Burnden park was marred by missiles thrown at them. pure bedlam from the off. Cambridge away - last game, 3-2 win overshadowed by the horrific events at Valley Parade the same day. Think we stuffed Plymouth 7-2 at home that season. Like I say, absolutely dire stuff on the pitch, but a jolly good laugh off it, think I did about two thirds of the away games and all at home.
