It's easy to get uptight about it, but I ate a load of sugary nonsense as a kid. Not the end of the world from an obesity point of view. I've barely ever been anything approaching overweight in my life because I played football morning noon and night and have stayed very active as an adult. My teeth are shite though.

I do believe it messes with their concentration / behaviour though. You see it in them within 10 minutes of eating anything sugary / artificial. They turn into bloody gremlins.

Balance, that’s all. Bit of everything, and keep on top of the treats.

No need to go over-board with organic, or obsessing over every tiny ingredient in every meal, or panic over every spoon full of food being made from scratch.

Who has time for that anyway.

My kids are fine, and do loads of sport.

Common sense, and its easy.

That's just bad parenting which is to blame for behaviour.

Apparently, giving sugary cereal to your kids is not necessarily a bad thing. Even though they are packed with sugar, they have loads of vitamins and minerals in them and giving them milk alongside their cereal, is even more beneficial.

Sugary stuff has no affect on kids, a so called 'sugar rush' doesn't exist according to folk who know about these things. Getting hyper off certain artificial colours and flavours in some sweets is proven though. I remember my older brother used to go nuts when he ate Monster Munch, haha!

Bollocks.

Try teaching 30 teenagers just after dinner when they're ffull of sugar..

It's funny but chaotic.

I think as kids we ate that much 'crap' we become immune to it..

:nea: Nah! tis not good, plus the added salt and the fact that the added sugar is high fructose corn syrup its plain daft. The added vitamins and minerals is somat that harks back to the war and post war years when rationing was in force and has continued as a marketing gimmick. Those should be in plentiful supply in a balanced diet. Somat like porridge or weetabix or shredded wheat is a far better bet with some strawberries & blueberries.

Do kids still have rusk and ready brek? I was brought up on those delights.

Haha is it fuck. There's no two ways about it. It's an energy rush from too much sugar.

Food of the gods on a cold winters morning

I still have farleys rusks.

Have you mislaid your false teeth or something?

I still steal the odd one from the kids stash.

:) As rusks, proper chewing and everything. They're a smashing on the go breakfast whilst driving to work.

Someone will be on soon to say it's better to eat the silver foil no doubt.

You don't eat the tin foil, you use it to line your hat to stop the government reprogramming your brain via x-rays.

Don't you mean the reptilian shape shifters? They are amongst us, selling pastry items to the general public.

Do you think I just pluck random companies out of the air to vent spleen at?

Anyway, I retract my previous ire, they're lovely, here's the CEO keeping it real and getting her hands dirty...

Farleys were bought by Heinz.

Heinz are about to merge with Kraft.

She's done alright for herself that old biddy.

He's still whining about Hampsons, Frank. I think it's something to do with not cuddling the Union rep.

Agreed

My eldest is as good as gold. Just a normal 4 year old boy.

When he's been to my mums for the afternoon and she's spoilt him rotten he comes back like he's been on a 4 day bender smoking crystal meth.

I can see it in his eyes...he's bouncing.

Whatever it is,sugars or additives it sends him hyper.

He's still whining about Hampsons, Frank. I think it's something to do with not cuddling the Union rep.

Who's whining, you're the one dragging your point over into another thread, right, Frank?

Oi you two don't bring me into your tiff!
