Probably posted this before, but got chatting to Nigel from Dodgy once in a bar in Clitheroe before a gig. He told me they were recording an album once in the back of beyond. They went to the local pub for a break and saw they had a “battle of the bands” contest. Nobody recognised them, so they entered it. Came second. Out of two one would imagine?

I think a clip of Beavis and Butthead was on as I spilled my beans. Probably MTV, but I was focussed on trying not to shout yeehaa at the time

It was them headlining, Asian Dub Foundation and Theaudience with the one and only....SEB. Saw them once Was a greatest hits gig at the academy On a Sunday after a heavy weekend Couple of spliffs in and went under with cold sweats and wanted to go home They started off well and finished strong but the vast majority in the middle was hard work

Then put QOTSA on

Heard one of their singles on the radio a few years ago, and the lyrics were embarrasingly bad. It's like something written by a 13 year old the night before his English homework is due. One o'clock in the morning And I'm leaving from the club My friends are having a party Kind of feel I've had enough At two o'clock in the morning Sure I'm at their party house I meet the roommate getting some water She got a baby in her stomach Three o'clock in the morning We hear a scream above the sounds Looks like the baby in her belly Thinks it's time to come on out Four o'clock in the morning I'm driving all over the road I swerve a dog on the high street And crash into the post She can't wait any longer I got to help her come into the world The police try to arrest us But then they see the baby girl Five o'clock in the morning I'm drinking coffee on the ward I take a walk in to see her Tells me 'bout the dad that took off And now we're twenty-two months along She ask me to be the daddy And get married when it snows Beyond dreadful. My cat eating biscuits is more poetic. Them and Kasabian are two of the dullest bands on earth

I only ever saw them twice. 1989 and 2008. Was totally convinced they played Distubance at the Heron House in Birmingham. Which does make me sometimes question if the sets are correct on this site. That second encore in Birmingham I imagine would have been a tough one to enjoy. I have very few recollections of the gig. Was 17 and on an organised coach from Moor Lane. We’d played at Wembley round that time as well. https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/rem/2008/old-trafford-cricket-ground-manchester-england-3d6bd3f.html https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/rem/1989/nec-arena-birmingham-england-43d68fe3.html
