I dont know if they’re valid..his assertion he’s 25% down on exchange leaves me to doubt anything he’s said. Anyhow I’d prefer we made our own frozen food products rather than import goods from Europe, hopefully some company here in the UK is benefitting and the jobs are created here in the uk… that’s what its all about for me. Speaking about imported food I went to Tesco today and had the opportunity to buy strawberries from Spain or UK can you guess which I bought? I’ll give you a clue. 🇬🇧

Out of interest, was there a price difference?

I'd like to think most people would go for the British ones either way (unless, as Bolty said yesterday, they're all absolute shit and have no taste)

UK strawberries are great but the industry has been hit by er Brexit. Some farms cannot get seasonal workers to pick the strawberries and have therefore decided to grow other things. Shame

The bigger issue in that article hasn't been touched upon- customers demanding low prices. Supermarkets.

The country has got itself into a cycle of cheap labour and cheap food.

For all the reasons detailed previously, that has to change.

Yet it's a brexit issue. What tosh.

I remember when we only had strawberries in the summer. Seasonal fruit and veg was the norm.
Saw a programme last year with Gino D’Acampo in Italy. He said he couldn’t understand why people in the UK expected to eat fruit and veg out of season.
Think of the environment people. 👍

Absofuckinlutely.

It would also help support our own farming instead of eating strawberries with the texture of a swede and a huge carbon footprint.

Slaves to the supermarkets.

Lemons- Spain

Strawberries - Spain

Rasberries- Morocco.

Ill check the veg later.👍

Let me know if the Moroccan fruit is any good as normally I wouldn’t touch it.

Once incinerated by the microwave in my porridge, it’s difficult to be picky about its flavour. 😊

Yes, porridge with blueberries. I normally put Tesco’s ‘perfectly imperfect’ frozen fruit (origin unknown) in but I ran out. Got a new bag today.

Not sure what your point is.

Greenhouses don’t ensure a year round growing environment unless heated by unnatural means.

We should revert back to the days when all we ate was potatoes and tripe, maybe a turnip if it's your birthday. Fuck fruit off altogether.

That sort of defeatist talk will get you nowhere. Where’s your bulldog Dunkirk spirit?

Must be some form of eco greenhouses

Always had ‘seasonal’ fruit and veg when I was young.

Sorry for your experience.

Ah, so you just want us to regress to when YOU were young? You need to let it go mate. Grow old gracefully.

Still young at heart. Still able to debate without resorting to personal digs. Still able to debate with intelligence and humour. How about you?

Might try that- porridge with blueberries.

Healthier that a teaspoon or so of silver spoon.

I cheat for sweetness add honey & not forgetting some walnuts.

best porridge I’ve ever had was in a Lake District hotel was laced with whisky.

Another option. Porridge with grated apple and cinnamon.
You can substitute apple for turnips depending on the time of year.😉
