Megson Back .

At WBA , where he is loved . Pension top up, would love to draw them in a cup.

Yes I know he did get some good results for Bolton.

But the guy nearly ruined this club.

Chalk and cheese.

Two divisions apart, one had money to spend, wasn't under a transfer embargo and inherited a premiership class squad. The other didn't.

the premier class squad he inherited was so good we had 5 points from 9 games and had anelka in it

anelka who was sold soon later, i think?

He inherited a squad with braaten, Wilhelmsson and Gerald's Cid in it along with big Sam's unsustainable business model.

But the season before they qualified for Europe so can't have been that bad.  More selective nonsense .

IMO Big Sam is the greatest manager in the club's history but the football played in his last season saw me having a second pint at half time rather than go back out to watch the game. Never done that before or since.

only towards the end though right?

certainly up to christmas was good especially when Anelka started scoring - December in particular when we were pushing top 4

but aye, there were some shockers come the 2nd half of the season - boro and spurs away spring to mind, as does Reading at home

I really never got this bit about "entertaining football" at Bolton. I've said it before but for me I travelled home much happier following a drab 1-0 victory than I ever did following a 3-4 loss. Maybe it's just me who feels the results were foremost and the entertainment secondary.

My problem with Megson was the deep defending. By the end we were defending so deep that even the 5ft 71/2 inch Stephen Hunt was heading in goals on the goal line! Our defence was almost defending inside the goal. Any mistake so deep causes a goal i.e. no time to recover. Rubbish.

Spot on

From Jan 1st that season, we only picked up 17 points from the last 17 games. Just mentioning qualifying for Europe but ignoring that we only just hung on to that European place & were very clearly ( I was at Boro, Spurs & West Ham ) a team on the skids, is selective nonsense.

They got 10 from the last 8 of that season so were starting to pick up , given they had taken 7 points before that from 9 games  , the performance ratio increased  60%.  No way you can argue they were on the slide on your theory.  Maybe judge it over the whole season, a team finishing 6th is a good effort.

The squad needed massive investment.

That's why sam legged it.

You arent alone.

Wait till we go on a bad run this season playing the parky way. The knives will soon be out.

Like they were last season

More than once
