Northern Rail

They will look really nice stuck in the depot whilst all the services are cancelled due to no drivers being available

I don't get the lack of drivers, is it similar to Ryanair in that no cunt had had a holiday all year so they're all off at once?

  • Nice top hat Big E!

  • They had some Wigan pier dance type thing on north pier last weekend. About 2,000 E’d up whoppers in town.   Most stayed till the closing time of 6am and figured they could just get the train home

The Dutch, French and Germans invest in our privatised system and use the profits to subsidise their state owned and infinitely superior systems.  Edit: Sorry didn't see the link to the story. Either

I think it is because they changed the routes so drivers have to be trained for that section of track. Not sure why but I am sure there are valid reasons for it.

Ah so the age old some twat in an office whose computer has said to do this when they have no knowledge of what that entails for those on the coal face.

Oh, and different trains need different training apparently. Sound pretty odd to me. Trains go forward or backwards on a track controlled by signals.

Pilots are trained on individual routes and planes so can't transfer so much and I can see why but train drivers?

Suppose its a case of knowing where junctions and signals etc are

When the wires are up, be trains up to Scotland from Bolton again.

Nope

The trains will be zipping through Bolton at 80mph

Someone shared a link

They need training on driving the train, then on driving the route before being allowed to crack on

An experienced driver needs to train the new guy

They said some journeys have ended up having 5 drivers aboard at different points to complete 1 journey and that’s why they are short staffed

3 days of strikes in a week shortly too.

Nice!

Business as usual then

Nice timing to get the public on side.

My Mrs is going back one day a week next week. I'm working from home for this day until Sept when she goes back properly.

No fucking way Im getting the trains to manc at the moment.

My Mrs works next to Piccadilly

Shes been getting up at 5am every morning to check which trains are cancelled / running

Generally leaving the house at 5.50am to get to Horwich and into Manc, any later and the limited number of trains mean she just wouldn’t get on a later one as they are full

In work for 7am rather than 9am ffs

It clearly shows that whomever introduced the time table change before the train companies were ready is a cunt.

That said, and I am happy to be educated on this - how hard is it to drive a train in one direction, on a fixed track and with signals?

Clearly it’s a health and safety issue and proper procedure should be followed

Why the roll out of these changes wasn’t delayed (along with everything else) beggars belief

Prob depends if the train unions are obstructive bastards

Surely we have the technology so trains don’t even need drivers.

Just a dude that can press stop if summet happens.

Technology yes but as with the uber automatic cars you still need a Bod there and if they're not paying attention then they're no use.

If Joe Public could be trusted not to wander on the tracks or cut across a level crossing then technology may be the answer but as there's a vast number of cunts out there we need drivers

The railways are completely run by the unions which is why a bus driver gets 20-28k a year and train drivers get 40+. No issue with that at all but I think they are overpaying their card now

some schools are still off

quite a few bolton primaries

It seems the RC schools only got a week at Easter so they're off for a fortnight now.

It’s more a shift allowance

No news shocker: all trains ran on time today

Is that the ones that ran (weren't cancelled) or all trains.

At least the trains Northern run are dirt cheap. I take out a 2nd mortgage each year to get fucked by Thameslink.

You makes your bed

And then it gets cancelled, so I wait 45 minutes to squeeze in to my bed with 15,000 other sardines :D
