Not been for a while and was in awe with the amount of building work and tower cranes in the area, the place was hammered with Parklife goer's, boxing supporters, Taylor Swift devotee's and cricket fans. Had a mooch round the Science museum, a meal in almost famous, and a few pints in the N Quarter. An enjoyable day in an ever changing city.

Mad how much is going on down there this weekend.

I never tire of telling folk not from these parts, when walking around Market Street "Me and my mates (as kids) used to get mugged at Stanley point every week around here, on Saturday afternoon, in broad daylight."

 

Used to be a shithole, in fact it had "GET US OUT OF THESE SHITHOLES" sprayed in six foot letters on the front of some houses that the number 25 passed in Ordsall...

 

I think I liked it better then, we even came to an understanding with our muggers - we wouldn't challenge the mugging and pretend to be scared and they'd tolerate us giving up about 21p in coppers as their booty.

As a nipper Manchester just seemed like a bigger, dirtier version of Bolton.

 

Since the bomb it's just gone from strength to strength.

 

Still miss the old Corn exchange though - used to love Sat trips for jumbo sized rolling papers that tasted of strawberry and other assorted paraphernalia

Betfred the Red seems to have a few skyscrapers being built on the approach to Manchester.

I'm just about too young to remember the corn exchange but I was gutted when the Red or Dead mon turned The Colosseum into flats.

 

I did enjoy sitting in the cafe with my college crush watching the demolition men pull the buildings down for what is now Harvey Nicks.

 

Thanks to the Madchester era and the love of brands that came with it there's not a massive independent clothing scene in Manchester. Plenty of shops selling quality branded clobber though.

Some ace shops in there I wish I could revisit it now to appreciate them as an adult. They sold some rare as hell action figures in there!

Agree with youri on how rough it was. We got knifes pulled on us on market Street on a Saturday afternoon. Was a complete shift hole then. Most of Manchester still is but city centre is like a different place.

I only visited pre bomb a couple of times and was quite young but I remember that bus station under the Arndale and the market bit being one scary place

Noticed Eastern Bloc on Oldham St has gone, but still plenty of places flogging vinyl on the street.

When I used to live near there about 10 years ago NQ used to be full of Indy labels.  Had an ace T shirt with jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest spraying water over everyone and one with a lava lamp on it spelling porn.  Stay classy

The area around the old docks has changed so much, a less stressful place to visit and parking is easy, just the view across the canal is a bit of a downer.
