Europa League Final could have been a 7-6 thriller & it's just my opinion but for me it still wouldn't justify a long drawn out competition of dull, often irrelevant games played by non 1st teamers, watched by virtually nobody. 100s of games to finally produce 1 showpiece game that anyone is interested in...it's just not for me.

Last season the FA Cup had 736 teams.

I loved it when we were in it

And about 680 of them would have been buzzing to be in it, enjoying each game as it came along, full of anticipation for who they might get in the next round or if they could possibly get to the 1st round, or even the 3rd. Stories all the way from the last qualifying round to the semi finals. 1st teams picked for every game for 90% of the 736. No reduced prices as the crowds and general interest are at least o

n a par with league crowds, no false enthusiasm until the top 2 divisions take part. Very different to the Europa League and the U21s cup.

Me too. It meant something then. Most games on a Wednesday, less teams entered, no champions league teams coming to join in after they've been knocked out of 1 European comp. And yes if we were in it again i would embrace it, despite what it's become. But I wouldn't expect any non bolton fan to even notice we were playing, just like nobody notices anyone else playing in the Europa league unless it's the final.

You could say that about most competitions though, Most if not all leagues

I’ve not watched match of the day since we got relegated, couldn’t tell you who half the players or managers are in the PL

Fock knows who cares about League 1 outside of teams in it

its cool to bash the Europa League, It’s a great chance for teams like us to get abroad

Baku was a farce like

Only my opinion but as a football enthusiast I do notice most league results. On a Saturday night or sunday morning I can normally say how 75% of teams have gone on and see at least half the goals on TV most weeks. I literally don't even see or hear results of the lesser cups, because even the clubs taking part arent too bothered. I think it's like the comparison between a tennis or golf 'major' and the lesser tournaments. You just know everyone wants to enter the majors and do their absolute best. Not so the other stuff, and hardly anyone takes notice of who wins the lesser tournaments.

Aye

But League 1 isn’t a major, neither is the Championship

The PL outside of the top 2 isn’t all that to bd fair

Plenty of ‘dull / irrelevant games’ as you put it

To clarify my 'definition' of a major game, I am looking at it from the viewpoint of the teams involved. If Crawley have 2 games in a week, 1 in Div 2 & 1 in the Joke Cup, the 1st team will play the league game, the fans turn up for it & they feel all the elation or deflation of the result. The cup game isn't given the same attention, and neither is the Europa league by arsenal or man u when a league game follows. For me, if the teams involved care properly about a result, it gets my interest, I'm more interested in a Chorley league game than arsenal reserves v lech posnan in another (yawn) group game on a Thursday. Just my opinion & sorry to labour the point.

Planning on going to the League Cup game and certainly the league game, but the Checkatrade can get fucked (even though I went to the game at Cheltenham last time around).

yeah, but you could get the hat trick

if you go to two, you have to do all three

Had no idea Rochdale were even in our division

1989 Sherpa van changed the clubs fortunes around
