May 5, 20206 yr Just eat The charity ones with the freshly twatted/starved donkeys and dogs skulking around in them. Untuckit. It doesn't annoy me a lot but it sounds like they came up with the advert before the product idea. I mean who actually tucks in casual shirts anyway apart from nonces?

May 5, 20206 yr You lot are talking about linear TV ads - nowadays the spend on this, unless its massive brands with broader targeting. The last TV ad I did was almost a static, London and South East only, playing only during the ad breaks in Lorraine (and maybe This Morning early slots) for a show at the 02, only cost something like 4k including the ad and did 20k sales over one day. SkyAdsmart is ok - but its reach is can be poor, decent with a small budget. Cath-up TV ads where you can target audiences are really good but expensive. Most linear TV ads are a brand awareness campaign to the general public with a lot of wasteage for building on secondary platforms with further info online as you are target better with less wastage (using stuff like programmatic, and if you have one your trading desk so that the media team can tell us what's happening in real time to shift spend hourly, never mind daily) you can also re-target with lookalikes (basically every time you are on a platform, you are logged and we create a pool of audiences that we can target directly on interest and search) you put the initial money into creating a pool of audiences that we can then re-target and it's as close to shooting fish in a barrel as you get in media. Brands like Harry's razors though have built up a large following targeting with select out of home, online and a lot of specific targeting via podcasts with written presenter ads. They wouldn't touch linear ads, but 5/6 years ago they would have needed to. So it's less about if an ad annoys you, if it does then the media planner is wrong as it's been served on the wrong platform to the wrong person.
May 5, 20206 yr Not you NiC - your pushing 'the arts', even if some of it is highly dubious in nature.
May 5, 20206 yr Oh no - I'm under no illusion Youri. I make money from getting people to buy stuff (and sometimes things that they can't afford) I mean nothing is pure or organic anymore. Digital platforms have allowed us to harvest data and target like never before. I make money by essentially making rich people richer. Ok, I'm not promoting betting firms (but I'd have no moral issue with as in all honesty I can't) I've sat there and had Spotify pitch their platforms by using McDonald's as an example of a campaign they ran in Brazil on the platform. I didn't think I'd best point out the irony of the example. Entertainment isn't ethically purer. We're all trying to convince you to spend money. As soon as you come to peace with that, the better at your job you'll be - and for all that rubbish apparently I'm 'worth' the same as three nurses. Something has got horribly bent out of shape, I'm sure you'd agree.
May 5, 20206 yr At least you're self-aware enough to admit the above... I'm sure plugging sommat like 'Jersey Boys' is ethically purer than hoodwinking folk that banks or petrol companies aren't cunts.
May 5, 20206 yr Aye but what about BP sponsoring the British museum, or Lockheed Martin for theatre. Also, a lot of the big shows have backers - many aren’t the purest of souls. My old boss said in this game we’re all whores. Over time my idea of what is ethical as become elasticated. I don’t know if being aware of this all makes me less or actually more of a cunt. One caveat though is that yes, entertainment does bring great joy to a lot of people - Netflix, Theatre, Gaming, live music, but I have to be honest and say I’d take any gig available to add to the roster. Also, I’ve chased clients for debts some ended in hospital through breakdowns, my party piece is being know to make theatre staff cry! (Mind you they were useless and a bit mardy) it can be pretty grim. The arts out of all the creative industries have the highest cases of institutional bullying.
May 5, 20206 yr Any product or brand that compares itself to another one. Either not comparing like for like or the small print at the bottom of the screen proves that their claims are all bollocks.

Aldi piss me off for that, a basket full of all their own stuff (some of which is ok but some awful) vs Tesco basket full of top branded stuff. They don't compare against Tesco value or Asda smartprice for example.

Sprinkle some carefully selected 'dirt' and completely remove it back to new. Bollocks. That latest VAX advert where they vacuum up a load of spaghetti... Really? And besides, they've removed the convoluted flexible hose while they did that bit if you look carefully so where did said spaghetti go because it sure as hell didn't get sucked up with no trace of residue! 17 hours ago, Youri McAnespie said: At least you're self-aware enough to admit the above... Banks or petrol companies being cunts is one thing but fucking hell, gambling companies take the biscuit. When the fun stops, stop! What they're saying is, come to us, get a gambling addiction and once you can't control your urge to chase your losses, have a go at stopping.
