It may well have angered him etc, but as you say he'll need thicker skin than that. 

IE said he'd already spoken to him after the Barrow game so the kid was aware of what was needed. 

It may later transpire that it isn't the best way of motivating the lad, in which case IE will have made a mistake and will himself have to learn. Until we've heard the thoughts of crellin and others around him though, no one should be making too much of it.

Not that i can be arsed finding out but did IE do this much public criticism at barrow?
