Newport (A)

Hopefully we’ll be going down there on the back of three points against Colchester.

Newport are back in Newport after two games in Cardiff to give them a chance to rest the pitch at Rodney Parade. Just in time for it to host Dragons RU v Northampton on Saturday night. FFS. Fingers crossed it stays dry or the pitch will be knackered for Monday.

Need to play 1 game at a time and 3 points against Colchester is a must, then see what Monday brings. last thing we want to do is underestimate Colchester and balls up.

Anyone else prepared to admit to feeling underwhelmed when we signed him?

Not at all Cambridge, Newport are nothing special and are on a bad run. We’re on a good run and have arguably the best squad in this league and according to our manager have much more to come. I can’t understand all these negative fans happy to settle for a draw. Sod that, I want us to win the league and there’s no reason we can’t unless the manager and players accept the same fatalistic mood as you lot. Yes football is fickle and no more than in its fans. I’ll be both surprised and hugely disappointed if we don’t win all our remaining games and certainly don’t accept your point that “we’re due a defeat.” Show some more positivity man.

Negative or realistic? We’ll all be disappointed with a draw but that’d be much better than losing.

Of course, we’d all rather have the win but that doesn’t make wanting AT LEAST a draw negative.

I’m happy for people to find the post but his first game he didn’t look great but I said this guy does not stop running, he’s a battler You could just see he is what we were missing he’ll be a big player.

Not being negative being realistic,  runs like we are on will always come to an end. I hope it continues this season and through into next season and beyond, but I won't be pissed off when it does happen.

The end of the season is always tricky, teams are scrapping, nerves creep in. For the first time in this run we are playing with something to lose, in an automatic promotion spot. This changes the pressure on the players and I hope they handle it well and respond with a resounding victory.

The bookies have us favourites to win Cambridge, that’s being realistic. I’d imagine we’ll be favourites to win every game we play this season, that’s being realistic, so why fans will “settle” for a draw seems highly unrealistic to me. We have by far the best squad and a team with a winning habit so why be anything less than optimistic?

I wasn't impressed when we signed him and I was more convinced he was shit after his first game. I felt Tutte had been harshly treated.

Happy to hold my hands up and say I was wrong.

1. favourites don't always win, trust me.

2. bookies odds reflect weight of money, nothing else. There's no implied knowledge. As we've probably more fans having a bet than Cambridge have, plus the neutrals thinking we're going to win every game, that drives the ods down.

Not sure where Cambridge come into this. But you really need to readjust your understanding of words such as positive, negative, realistic, unrealistic, etc.

But you are all gung-ho and positive before a game, then when we don’t brush everybody aside like Man City (who are the only team in the country who are capable of doing this) you are all doom and gloom and the very example of someone who can’t find any positives. A bit of balance and realism that we are a team in the bottom tier is what’s needed I think. See my earlier post about this division, nobody not even us, is going to win every game.

If only bookies odds were that predictable. I want us to keep winning, we should have enough to cause most teams a problem and so give us a great chance of winning every game and I would absolutely love it if we do. BUT if we do lose it will be a bump in the road and one I hope the players respond well from, as form and confidence can be easily damaged. Against close rivals in the league though avoiding defeat, and allowing them to close the gap is also important,  so a draw would be disappointing and frustrating but given circumstances won't be the end of the world and could be considered a 'good' result

I’m no expert in this league or any league for that matter but one thing I noticed in the first half of the season is how leggy teams midfielders looked.
We needed some in the middle of the park with a big engine but not necessarily technically great on the ball, someone who would run all game, close players down, do the ugly parts of the game to let other flourish and take pressure off the centre halves

I’ll settle for that C, I won’t use your Cambridge Monika because it’s obviously confusing some posters!! But personally I think we need to get points on the board as early as possible because the longer we don’t the more the nerves build up and then as we know only too well, the pressure increases. I don’t want to be biting my nails as we have so many times, so for me draws are points dropped, however you look at it.

Think this is true for all leagues. A solid core of the pitch protects the defence but gives a platform from which to build attacks. Without this you get moved around more and space opens up a lot. Players like fernandinho and Henderson do this at the top, just significantly better.

Players in that role are often overlooked and underrated, but it is probably one if the most difficult roles in the team, it demands high levels of fitness and a great reading of the game.

Best teams always have this, Kante, Busquets, Fernandinho, and of course the Main Man Claude ‘Big Tackle’ Makelele

The bookies have us at 6/4 to win, they have draw or home win at 8/15. So if you want to use bookies odds we are more likely to lose or draw than to win.

Also do not get messed up thinking that saying a draw is not a disaster is the same as saying we can not and will not win. I think we are the best team in current form (although you and ratchet have questioned recent performances) in the division, so I think we can win and should be going there to win and sure that is the mentality IE will go there with.

Yes, I'm afraid he was just another signing I knew nothing about. I was hoping for the best but prepared for another one turning out to be a disappointment or just not fitting in with IE's great plan.

I'm pleased to be pleasantly surprised. He's taking most games in his stride.

Yes, you can add me to that list. I liked Tutte and would have been picking both him Thomason ahead of Williams. But he’s one of the first names on the team sheet now and integral to everything we do as a team.
