Buddy my dog doesn't seem to have coped very well since the new baby has come. He's very quiet now and withdrawn and hides away alot of the time. Noticed he keeps licking his back leg in one spot and he has licked the fur away now. Still eating, drinking and is fine when out the house on walks. Anyone else had a problem like this before I get bummed at the vets? He's getting lots of attention, he isn't being ignored.

Can be caused by a few things so vet is really your only option. It may be cone of shame time but that is a real pain, especially if dog has a crate

Our eldest dog is forever licking her front lower legs and paws and we think it is arthritis and she is consoling herself, she only does it when she is lied down resting

loads of this about with dogs right now - they’ve become used to the humans being at home and now everyone’s back off furlough they’ve all got separation anxiety.

He could have ticks or mites though, have a look for tiny spots of blood in the patch he’s been gnawing at.

As a last resort, get him laid. Works at all levels of the animal kingdom.

Not arsed about how long it takes to train up the way they look to build the bill up is disgusting, not to say all are like that

I'm quite happy paying to get him right. I'd be throwing other half in skip though if I had to pay for his medical costs though.

You could say that about any trade whatsoever. Mechanics, builders etc etc..

They’ve earned the right to rip you off if that’s what you think.

Build Back Better

A farmer no less once advised for the slightest ailment enquire about the cost of treatment versus the cost of 'sending them to live on a farm' (aka the final jab) - even if you're never going to destroy them, kid on you would.

He reckoned if you let on how attached you are to a beast they just pull figures out of a hat regarding the bill, seeing Regan in his 911 Turbo or Testarossa suggests farmer Giles was right.

Years ago we inherited an old yorkie with a case of pulmonary fibrosis, needed Prednisolone - Regan would demand check-ups every other prescription.

Eventually I said, "It's terminal and she's on the strongest dose? So why the need for check-ups? Just give me the pills from now on in..."

A lot of them are like the most unscrupulous tradesmen (vets).

If you (Blondie) are acquainted with anyone on the Poky/rock 'n' roll there used to be a free PDSA place near Old Trafford Cricket Ground...

I think they ask for donations, my sister (two paracetamol on an ironing board) got her now dead dog treated there after he got twatted by a cat, big soft twat, wound got infected, anyhow a mate of theirs, foundry worker, was inbetween jobs due to some mad skin disease, on the sick - he took him (the dog) claiming he was his.

Cost a tenner donation for treatment that would've been around £600 elsewhere.

This is going back years.

There also used to be somewhere near that retail park with the trampoline thing near Bromwich Street - subsidised so cheaper than Sonny fucking Crockett's et al.

Modern vets are gearing up around insurance policies so if you don't have insurance tough shit. I have always used a proper "dog vet" with lino floors and people who care about the dog, not "pet hospitals" where the receptionist is dressed like  nurse with a stop watch on her left tit. On my last unfortunate visit we were reminiscing about my previous dogs... they actually remembered them all.

When we had a part time market stall the fruit and veg lady opposite doted on her Lab. It's leg swelled up and it was eventually admitted to a specialist pet hospital where it underwent CT scans and the like, she was climbing the walls with grief. I did ask her if it had been in any long grass and she said it had. In the end the swelling went down and the vet couldn't give a diagnosis, he said something on the lines of "sometimes with dogs these things just clear up" after billing over 3 grand. I knew deep down the dog had reacted to an insect bite/bee sting and my regular vet would have prescribed a 5 day course of anti inflammatories and charged me forty quid for the privilege.

How is the mut?

Had something similar last year with mine before she passed away . licking and bitting the paw pad the vet said it was a skin allergy . Might be worth checking the area for a tick think they can bury there selfs into the skin
