Direct Debits

I know the good folk of WWays will point me in the right direction; even the 49% will have a notion...

if you purchase an item via direct debit, and the company you buy from stop you from using said item mid term, are you obliged to complete the term? is it often dependent on Ts & Cs, or if they just stop fulfilling the order, can you cancel and kick up a fuss? they've not missed a payment, and just wonder how long services can be suspended for?

TIA

No need to apologise. You're probably right anyway. I'm probably wrong. No big deal.

Right ok. Simpleton terms

when you buy the season ticket it costs x

the dd agreement is a method of paying x that’s all  nothing more nothing less  nowhere does it say you don’t have to pay x   If this or that happens

the club has the right to cancel the ticket or suspend as it sees fit and doesn’t have to refund for unused portions as per the legal clauses I’ve highlighter.

as such by the fact you agreed to pay x for it the club has a legal right to expect you to pay x for it in full if it chooses. And thus it can continue to take the direct debits or if they stop can pursue you for the balance.

thus x remains payable. Whether the ticket remains live or not.

but honestly if you think you’re right that’s ok

So your career in Finance involved Season Tickets at Football Clubs? You should've said.

Esco’s might not have, but mine has, and he’s absolutely correct. You don’t have a right to suddenly stop paying for the product halfway through in much the same way that I don’t have a right to go to the ticket office after tonight’s pile of shite and demand half of my up front money back for the rest of the season because I haven’t used it yet.

That said, with the way that the payments are structured, the club are generally in credit until you’ve missed 2-3 months worth of payments, by which point they’ll either cancel your card and call it quits or start chasing for payment if you intend to carry on using it. In Dr F’s case I’d probably be looking at the first scenario.

With a direct debit isn't it via a finance company rather than the club - they in turn release money to the club in advance?

That was previously the case (Zebra and V12 if memory serves me right) but I think it’s with GoCardless this year which is basically a direct debit processing system at 1% cost rather than selling the debt on.

Excellent. Thanks for clarifying. I bow to your (and @Escobarp's) superior knowledge on the matter.

Always pay up front for stuff - I keep my main money in a locked account as I lose cards for fun, just swap money over to some other shitbag account as needs dictate, I end up spending more on overdraft fees with DD. I forget to top up the shitbag account. Never really bothered to check match to match charges on my credit card.
