August 2Aug 2 I admire your attempts to get into the Hundred @BobyBrno but just struggling to get it myself. Completely takes away from the other formats; and with the short form you can't really see a good batting innings or spell of bowling. That's before getting started on the franchise nonsense.

That's before getting started on the franchise nonsense.I understand your reasoning. I’ve had my doubts but the more I see, the more I appreciate the appeal. Especially to people who aren’t traditional cricket fans. I can go back to the early sixties and the introduction of one day cricket. Many older fans then had a similar attitude to the negative reaction to the Hundred now. It grabbed my attention then and the interest grew to the wider game. I still think Test cricket is the best format of the game.
August 3Aug 3 I went on Friday v Trent and was prepared to enjoy it, embracing getting the new shirts they were giving out (only XL and one kids size left though!). Nice couple of pints in the evening sun.Then "we" got a boundary and this wierd piped noise/chant came blaring out of the speakers. "MSG, MSG, MSG". OK, a bit of a one off to get the crowd going.No, it was forced on us every single boundary, or wicket in the Trent innings.And really manic bloke and woman trying to whip the crowd into a frenzy during any stoppages, but hardly succeeding. The "atmosphere" was literally the loud speakers and these 2 shouting at the crowd to MAKE SOME NOISE (why?), not unlike the too-loud music at the Reebok pre-KO - but every time something happened or there was a break.I'll watch some on TV (well beaten yesterday again) but that's it for me going to the home games, the noise was just a pain in the arse and unnecessary. It added nothing to the occasion, and I don't mind the appropriate music at T20, "another one bites the dust" etc which adds a bit of humour without being in your face.I tried, its not for me and I don't want to subject the grandkids to it either, I'll take them to other sport.

And the 100 comes at the expense of watching some real England or Lancs cricket with a genuine crowd and atmosphere, its a big void when there should be test matches etc.Its good for a lot of folk's wallets, bad news for cricket fans IMO.

The MSG stuff does grate. I was actually hoping for a good old fashioned 3 runs instead of a boundary so they wouldn’t play it. As I’ve said before, it does attract families and they do enjoy it and they are the fans of the future. I was there all day again yesterday and we are thinking of taking my 5 month old grandson next Tuesday.

The price point good enough to attract families - there are always, it seems, for MI London, loads of free tickets available as wellIt's probably good for introducing youngsters to the game, as it's all a bit crash, bang, wallop - whether those fans will then migrate across to the longer form(s) will be the acid test though

The only "odd" thing was how quiet it was compared to a T20 with a half decent crowd in - when you do get the Lancy chants and if its v Yorkshire plenty others too, as well as more of the lads day out vibe with the beer snakes etc. For the 100, there's none of that vibe, its more of a garden party feel with kids everywhere, even if the crowd had any songs they wouldn't get chance to use them much with all the noise coming out of the speakers.When I got my tickets I didn't know they'd introduced the noise pollution, so presumably most others didn't either so their decision to go was based on how it was previously, or how they enjoyed T20, or other games on TV which don't have that din. I won't be going again, there were enough red flags for the 100 that have been well documented but having the afternoon spoiled unnecessarily is the last straw for me (as one that wasn't invested in it but happy to give it a try).
August 7Aug 7 i think its important to consider the effect on crickets finances of the 100 investmentthe sums are vasti think theres too much novelty stuff and i hate the tv graphicsbut cricket was absolutely brokethis may just be a sticking plaster and if it is, it'll run its course and cricket shouldn't be brokenowt to do with me anyway, as id rather sit in the garden with a beer
August 7Aug 7 There's no financial benefit at all to the smaller counties that don't have a franchise playing at their ground, in fact it's a net financial drain given the counties play so little cricket during the peak summer months The Hundred is onCricket in England is funded by the income generated from Test matches and always will be, the counties don't turn a profit but don't really have to as they're primarily there to develop talent for the national teamIt's an ecosystem that's worked for decadesThe Hundred also doesn't do anything for the growth of the sport/attraction of younger supporters that the T20 Blast couldn't do if only it were given the same billing, and the sole purpose of it is to wrest control away from the counties, who retain the lion's share of the income from the T20 Blast, and towards the ECB because the ECB were jealous of the BCCI reaping huge rewards from the IPL Edited August 7Aug 7 by Lt.
