As I mentioned - the NHS needs significant investment to overhaul existing systems like procurement and IT.

And it would still need significant investment if it was privately owned and operated.

The concern for me would be if the judge had used that as a mitigation in order to give him a reduced sentence. Is that what happened in this case? If so then that's abhorrent.

3 years 6 months for the bloke who violently assaulted 2 female police officers and a member of the public. Not sure if they took his culture into consideration when giving him a piss poor sentence.

Sentencing guidelines - community service up to 5 years maximum. Given he’s spent almost a year on remand, 3.5 years seems at the upper end of those guidelines.

Or you could just tell yourself it’s because he’s Asian if you like.

The perfect system I’m sure doesn’t yet exist, but whilst I said yesterday that from personal recent experience the NHS and its people are largely brilliant, I agree with others that reform is needed, not least due to increasing costs of healthcare and an ever aging population. It can’t carry on as-is.

Personally I think we’re heading to some sort of means testing for payments, as well as a shake up in management structures to reduce overhead budgets and focus even more on clinical needs and outcomes. Fundamentally though (as per education) I’d take it out if the hands of politicians and have it run by folk in the know, who could (quickly) develop and implement a long term strategy without disruptions in priorities from the 5 year politics cycle.

Think they looked at but thought scrapping was not worth it, but at why 60 not at retirement age ?

I currently qualify but last I was offered a prescription asked could I get similar over the counter. Cost about a fiver.

The sentencing guidelines show an imbalance imo, that causes anger. If they want to keep them as they are, fine. I’d add a 10 year maximum for assault on a member of the police. Those that are there to protect us from people like Mohammad Farhir Amaaz.
