Agreed, players and fans alike actually. Took away any sense of us going into the unknown for the play offs. Sure, they may have been able to generate an atmosphere we rarely see in L1, and was a very competitive game, but we showed we were more than capable of matching it and had nothing to fear.

Another shout for a highlight for me, that Kenny goal at Bradford and the scenes it led to. Was just something about the way he took that shot, it was levels above League 1, proper disrespectful finish 😃

UEFA and FIFA's motives seem very much to be make it virtually impossible for big clubs/nations to miss out (ffs Italy what are you doing) and keep them involved for as long as possible. Doesnt make for much of a spectacle. 16 team Euros and 32 team world cups were the pinnacle for me.

Mad that. Yeah we did shit loads of spying for all these specific reasons... but it had no bearing over our preparation. Honest.

I mean yes tbf there are dire games in any tournament (the way media likes to portray Euro 96 as this great event for example). It's just the scale of it all for me, it doesnt feel like the format lends itself to a proper competition until very late on. Which is what FIFA want I suppose. I've grown pretty cynical about football the last few years. I'm a long way from the time when I used to spend days scouring any magazine I could for any info about every team, and hanging on to every word Gabriel Clarke tells us from the England camp. I dont see having the likes of Curacao, Haiti and Uzbekistan there as being a great pull, it just seems diluted.

Slightly off topic but the Football Cliches podcast often make a great point about how teams play against a country thats nearby one of their upcoming tournament opponents, like its meant to give them some sort of prep for how they'll play! I see we have Costa Rica in a friendly soon. That'll set us up nicely for the Panama game 😃

On late goal scenes as well, I feel like we went through years of not really having much of them at all in late PL, championship days. For a long time that Birmingham goal at ours was all we had to talk about 😃 We've been spoilt the last few years though, big time.

Not feeling it yet, still think there's way too many teams in it and that there will be some dire games. But I'll get into it as it goes on hopefully. Glad I've not put us into financial ruin by proceeding with the plan to go out there in the end, but now jealous of anyone going out 😃 Anyhow, to get into the spirit... Some superb goals at USA94 and a great collection of superstar names:

Highlights - the entire play off campaign. All 3 days and nights were just ace. Other than that, Wigan winner was top. Had some superb awaydays this season, probably goes down as one of my favourite seasons ever this. Huddersfield looked immense, even if I did only see it on telly. (At least I saw it and didnt leave early 👀) Lowlights - Peterborough away (the result, but was a good day otherwise as usual there), Swindon was a bad day all round, and then probably the lowest point was Port Vale. I still had faith after that, but it was open season for a couple of mates who have been neg all year. Clueless, lost the dressing room, doesnt know what hes doing, get rid tonight... All in all, in years to come this season will be looked at in the same way as that 92/93 Roadrunner goals compilation was: legendary.

Only had chance to watch first 10 mins or so. It's Wolves fans, but sounds like a good story.

And about 2 minutes after we stopped, they scored. So there is our lesson!
