I'd be surprised if you could backdate a claim for five years let alone ten.
I'd also be surprised if they would refund the amount you could have claimed rather than simply adjusting the tax you should have paid.
If you're a higher rate taxpayer, i wouldn't have thought claiming £150-£200 quid a year extra, would make much difference to your overall bill.
