Christmas Thread
It's a nice thing you're doing there. I often think I should do stuff like this but I'm just too much of a cunt, after all's said and done. My kids are 4 and 5 now, probably nearing peak christmas enjoyment time for our family. They are bloody loving it at the moment.

Well, given Khan is coming in at 160 these days and Hatton only went up to 147 a couple of times, it might turn it in his favour. It's hard to say with Hatton because I think he peaked against Tszyu and that fight took a lot out of him. He won a belt at 147 after that and won other belts at 140, but he'd been slightly cracked by the Tszyu fight I think. And his lifestyle choices didn't help. Think Hatton was a far better fighter personally, a level up from Khan, but just short of elite.

Yeah I was surprised by that too. Two weight classes between them. Sounds more like 'Khan enters the ring as a middleweight' type of thing. Didn't know Khan was coming in that heavy these days either.

Well you are conflating 'good boxer' with a particular style of boxing. Whereas I stick to the guy who wins the fights being the better boxer. My point being a peak Hatton would have beaten Khan all ends up. You can argue all day long when it comes to fantasy fights - because styles do make fights. But on their career records Hatton is way ahead, at his peak he was a far more formidable fighter than Khan.

Good lord no. Hatton was a far better boxer. Far better.

Considering he was at 135 not long ago, moreso. He's not a big welter though. Then again not many are, right now. Not like your tony margarito or Paul Williams, 6 ft plus, big guys. Cracking performance last night. He's got to be up at the front of the queue for Floyd / manny now but ironically they'll likely fight each other, rematch, and quit.

More Cuntishness From Ukip
That's just not the case any more. Ukip will take plenty of votes in northern labour territories. In the past you had two choices really and 'working class' northerners would not vote Tory. But ukip are (incorrectly) not seen as Tories, when in fact they are to the right of the Tories. They very nearly won Middleton and Heywood recently.

He's a game, brave lad and he has dedicated himself to the sport, admirable given how tough it is and how he could just toss it off and live very comfortably if he chose, and could've done so a long time ago. Like hagler said (ish) it gets hard to get up in the middle of the night and go running, when you are sleeping in silk sheets. As I said above, he's not durable enough and just not quite good enough at the elite level but very very few British fighters are. Only Lewis in my lifetime i reckon, and it's debatable whether he was British, in fairness. His fight education was not in Britain. Khan is a genuine world class fighter, Bolton born and bred. Hope he pulls it off tonight and would love him to get a mega fight with Floyd or pacquiao.

Question Time
Yep. The govt spend about 800bn a year I believe, all in. To make serious inroads you have to look at tax rises, nhs cuts, education cuts. Things that are politically unpalatable. All this bedroom tax and maximum benefit cap etc are meaningless in this equation. Which is why the Tories are accused of being nasty cunts for the sake of it, you'd think we'd solve our deficit by sorting out scroungers. Try this, it's crude but it shows how much needs to be cut just to break even, never mind start clearing our debt: http://www.ft.com/ig/sites/2014/deficit-calculator/

Won't stop up for it, got kids so never do. Any fight with a top ten guy is tough for khan. Malignaggi, collazo, Judah, those guys were all well past it in truth. Alexander will be a tough test for him, a younger, athletic guy. I'll be surprised if he comes through, he's just not tough enough at the top level IMO. When his freshness and speed wears off he struggles.
-
Question Time
Those kids are getting hurt anyway. Not sure a few quid in benefits makes any difference. Anyway for all the bile directed at benefits claimants the truth is that state pensions are eating up many times over more of the budget. But that's the issue no party dare confront.

Question Time
Not really. We at least have a theoretical chance of controlling non-EU immigration. EU, we're signed up to free movement. There may be other reasons to leave the EU but as far as UKIP are concerned, there's one big reason. Immigration is the sticking plaster solution to economic growth and a host of other economic ills. At what point do we say 'there's too many people here'? We'll have upped what was a relatively stable population by over 25% in 40 years by the mid 2020s (iirc it will be 76m from 58m in mid 80s, haven't rechecked the numbers but it's summat like that) - and even that estimate is likely to prove low. And the trend will be firmly upwards. In that time we've built comparatively fuck all in the way of roads and railways etc as far as I know. Again, probably a few sticking plaster solutions here and there. But we've not planned for all these people at all.
-
Question Time
They are a single issue party, that's why it's seemingly all he talks about. I don't think he claims that leaving the EU and controlling immigration solves all of our problems but while we're letting in enough people to fill Bolton (and more) each and every year we can't really get to grips with anything can we? Our infrastructure needs just continually race ahead of us, and how are we supposed to plan school places, house building etc accordingly, not knowing how many people will rock up from one year to the next?

Agreed I thought Saunders Eubank was a cracking fight, Eubank is so obviously raw though. Fair play for not worrying about losing his 0. He'd beat Saunders in rematch I think. Fury was good too, but it's hard to tell how much of it was Chisora being shit. Bit of both I think. Can't agree with you on the matchroom stuff, or at least I can't get on board with following (or hating) a promoter. Fuck it, who cares. It's the fights that matter, nothing else. £12 a month for boxnation is good value though.

The governing bodies are an utter farce mate, just completely ignore all of that horseshit. I'm not even exaggerating. It's all shite. Somebody like Wlad Klitschko can effectively pick and choose who he fights and when.

Autumn Statement
Home ownership is a good idea yes, but that doesn't mean you have to go to the extremes and scrap public housing. Like much in life, it's about striking a balance - not dogmatically seeing everything through to its 'logical conclusion'. In a similar vein it's all well and good leaving everything to the market but some things are too important. Putting a secure roof over families' heads chief amongst them. Our housing stock is there to house us, that should be the priority. The upshot of all the speculative money that has poured into housing is that all of us, buying or renting, are paying FAR more for our homes than we were 20 years ago. And all that money is being creamed off by a select few. Many foreign. In my opinion, if you took a step back and thought about that you'd realise that market forces aren't always the answer.

Autumn Statement
Nobody is compelled to live there but a lot of people are born there. If they grow up, and get a job, the council won't house them. They'll never earn enough to buy a place, so they'll have to move. That's a bit fucked. The fabled lack of home ownership in France is not quite true either, Germany moreso but still plenty of people who own there. Strip out the East German commie blocks and you'll have a different story. And it misses the point that the government sold lots of our public housing stock and doesn't build any.

May also have been in response to the proposed mansion tax by Labour. He's killed that one stone dead with this move. I'm against these particular changes in stamp duty. The bands did need to be made progressive. It was ridiculous and distorting that at £249,999 you paid £2,499 but at £250,001 you paid £7,500, etc. But he's cut the duty massively on all properties below £1m or whatever. Everybody praising the changes should keep schtum when the next round of cuts are made - because these will have to be paid for one way or the other. Also what he has done is make the margins on a buy to let a tad more attractive, and lowered the capital barrier to getting into buy to let in the first place. I think house prices and buy to let are really harming the country, this hoarding of property will kill social mobility dead. Foreign ownership is equally to blame. How on earth any youngster in the South East without rich parents plans to buy a property when they grow up is beyond me. £100k salary needed to buy in London now without equity. For all the money floating about London £100k is still not earned by many. Certainly not by many young people who don't own a home. I'll give the Tories their due though. Progressive stamp duty and pension reform have been two absolute no brainers for ages. They don't consult and fuck about, they just use their executive powers and make the common sense change.
